  • Go somewhere where you can split your time between doing nothing and doing something. Spend the morning doing nothing (sitting by a beach, lake, stream, whatever) and your evenings doing something fun.
  • If at all possible drive, take the back roads and stop at any place anyone thinks looks interesting weird, or just plain "huh, what is that?" Don't be in a hurry, the drive is part of the journey too.
  • If you can't drive, don't fly during prime time. Take a very early flight, or a mid-day flight.
  • Never eat anywhere you could have eaten at while at home. Always pick some place that is obvious locals go to, the food is better as is the service. If you like someplace go there more than once, its OK. The more sketchy looking the better.
  • Go to at least one museum, and one physical activity you haven't done in a long time each vacation.
  • If traveling with family find one "guy" activity the Ladies don't want to do, and do it the day they go outlet mall shopping. In the ...Hawk family there is ALWAYS one day of outlet mall shopping.
  • Have at least one night where you stay in, watch a movie, or play games. Talk to each other, catch up. You will probably find out you really do like these people.
  • Don't try to plan the whole trip out in advance. The best vacations are the ones where you don't really know what you are going to do, and don't really care if you DO anything.
Your mileage may vary of course, but that has always worked for us.
Do you always refer to yourself in the third person? At first I thought it was a joke, perhaps satire, or maybe a little bit of self deprecating humor. But dude, this has gotten way out of hand.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will make use of them where I can. Trying to talk my wife off the ledge of planning each and every second of the day is next to impossible, though. She seems to think that kids at 2 and 4 don't get tired and cranky after a full day of fun, waiting in lines, and being outside.

Hell not so long ago my brother and I got cranky on family vacations and would complain until the parents were totally pissed off, nearing age 18 lol.

It is a thing that long time ago, in the days of instrument want student, was a music store tour well. Electric boy is nostalgic.

I don't have an account in the following: Facebook,Twitter,Instagram, LinkedIn or any other "social" media sites.
(I do have a PhotoBucket account for emergency forum posts.)

DadHawk agrees.... (Technically above it wasn't 3rd person, it was intended as part of a title, guess I should have put it in italics or quotes)

Yea, I get that, I'm married to a list maker/planner type myself. It is definitely a challenge.
