This looks like a modern interpretation of a swashplate engine. Swashplate engines have been around from early 1900s.

It just seems that friction and lubrication issues would be the downfall to a design like this. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

I am suggesting that given how long this engine design has been around and nothing has come of it it is not going to be commercially viable. Their website doesn't look promising either: the time line stops at 1998 and the last "news" was from March 17, 2013.
