Same here, I always wanted an 06/07 sti, and if they still made it new I'd buy it in a second. I'm hoping the new wrx/sti are better than the current ones, now that they're separated from the Impreza. I think the BRZ will be a nice change in the meantime, and who knows, maybe I'll stick with it after or get a new version if they decide to add a turbo (and I have more money to maintain it...).

I've gone to that dark place again and started looking up sti videos.

Why do I do this to myself....

It boils down to:

Do you want a car which can easily make more power and handle well? Which has a load of info and parts available already? Should it be semi-practical with 4/5 doors? Do you live in bad weather? Are you going to seriously track the car? The WRX is the car for you.

Do you want a "sporty" 2-door for a daily driving beater with good MPG while still not being a total snooze-fest, then perhaps the BRZ is for you.

Agreed except that implies the wrx is a more exciting car than the frs will be. I feel like Subaru makes the least fun per HP in the community

You're driving the WRX/STI wrong then . Though I will give you that they tend to understeer too much (why I have an Evo instead), that's quickly corrected. My Evo on hillclimbs is a blast, and my friend's STI and WRX are almost up there.

I find it strange when people say that STI's aren't engaging or fun. Given the power and price, what exactly is more fun?

You are assuming that only power makes car fun. No, it's not that way. Fun car is a car which is engaging to drive ie good steering feel, handles very very well, has at least decent performance, is nimble and you can control it with confidence.

WRX is a good car, but everybody doesn't think that it's the funniest car in market...

Ultimately a car that puts a smile on your face is what you are looking for. Question is if the WRX or BRZ will do that for you longer.
Dude the BRZ is not a sportscar. It's like a Honda Civic with RWD!!! I joke I joke

I understand what makes a car fun, but I think you're underestimating the importance of power. Moreover, to say that the WRX/STI platform doesn't handle well is a mistake. I can admit, since I own one, that the steering is vague, at least compared to an Evo 8-9, but that doesn't stop me from having fun on the weekends.

Also, I'm not sure that I ever said that the WRX is the funniest car in the market. I've always thought of it being rather serious.

WRX is the reason I'm not getting an FRS/BRZ. I've gone through numerous FR layout cars and was going to get another one but for the price, I feel like I should be getting a lot more. A new WRX is just barely pricer higher than the FRS-God knows what it will be compared to the BRZ... especially with the insane markup they're gonna put on it.

Of course, it's my opinion, but I can't justify spending that 25k to get so little when I can spend a few hundred extra and get so much more out of the box. Plus, I'd just rather have 4 doors now-seeing as the next car I buy is gonna stay for a long time.

I don't think anyone would argue that the WRX isn't a more practical car than the BRZ. With AWD, 4 doors and a larger trunk/or the 5 door hatch, they are just more practical on a every day basis. However, if one wants a more fun car, I think the BRZ will win. If this is your only car and you need to transport people occasionally/live in an environment with a lot of snow or rain, the added benefit of AWD might be worth it.

Bingo. Fun is opinionated though too. Some people prefer AWD shenanigans over RWD. Not saying I'm one of them-but everybody has their own idea of fun.

Agreed. But I think most would agree that the WRX is more practical on an everyday basis. Sure fun is subjective. Light/great handling/RWD/NA/with nice manual transmission vs. Heavier/faster acceleration/AWD/turbo/mushy MT. Pros and cons to both.
