I've gotten used to them, and now that I am starting to hear them in other cars, I think we're just going to have to get used to the new normal.
I heard crickets louder than in any 86 from a completely different car the other night. It was a 4dr wagon of a domestic make I think.

We're not the only ones. These crickets were LOUD. I've heard 86's with the enhanced cricket noise & they don't hold a candle to what I heard. So, it's not just a Toyota problem. More like a problem with DI hpfp's in general.

I think this is just something we're going to have to get used to, much like the rumble of the exhaust.

I'm back on the list. Had it, got the "real" fix in January/February (don't remember when exactly I was able to schedule getting in). Crickets are back as of two weeks ago. I really dislike it. Every time I hear it I think of the old beaters that really shouldn't be on the road anymore making similar noises....

I'm going to make a different thread on the foam insulation that was done for my fuel pump with the latest october revision fuel pump. I have yet to get crickets since temps warmed up and they are completely muffled.

Maybe some DIY'ers may want to do it since it's a simple purchase from Home Depot or Lowe's from the looks of it.

Is there a DIY for the sound insulation?

Nope, but I'll do my best to show how mine was installed. The Toyota/Subaru engineers put it on my car when they flew in.

E0 tends to be at mom & pop shops, they probably don't get the same stuff as the chains.

So after toodling around Gatlinburg all weekend l had to fill up with regular 93. Within 10 minutes the crickets were
back with a GD vengeance.
Here's my question. If l run ethanol free gas, is there a octane booster or something l can add with the E0 that will bump
the octane back up to 93? I really enjoyed cruising Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge without crickets. I knew when heads were
turning it wasn't because of the damned crickets.

The stuff is out there however it isn't really regulated, there isn't really any objective test data out there, and it can get expensive fast (definitely more expensive than just buying the proper octane fuel). It's up to you what you put in the tank, some guys have posted about doing it in this thread whether it be Lucas or STP or something else and are all for it.

Personally I think it's snake oil, run the stuff that is regulated, crickets be damned, haven't heard mine for 15k miles.

Edit: just google 'octane booster'

Gentlemen I would like to weigh in on this as well. I purchased my 2013 FR-S CPO a month ago from Northbrook Toyota in Chicago. It had 6500 miles on it. Drove it back home to Georgia about 800 miles no crickets next time I drove it BAM the embarrassing chirps showed up.

I have made peace with the fact that there is nothing mechanically wrong with the car so I am reluctant to have Toyota swap out a part and possibly cause a chain reaction. I'm a firm believer in if it isn't broke don't fix it... this doesn't include maintenance but I digress....

I found this nice site to help locate Pure Gas stations IE Ethanol free

http://pure-gas.org/

It just so happens I have plenty of selections near my house that being said next time I fill up I will report if the crickets still exist or not. I not sweet easy fix I can live with.

One question I am used to purchasing 93 oct it seems the pure gas offered is only 90 oct. Will this be a problem???

Thanks
Matthew

While I haven't read through all 185 pages of this thread, it appears that almost all (if not all) people complaining about crickets are NOT in Canada.

I find that interesting because at least in Ontario, premium gas does NOT have Ethanol in it whatsoever.
