May be easier to just contact Viper directly or a reputable and authorized installer. Most audio shops are authorized, just the reputable part that may take some investigating. Local car forums are your best lead for that part.

During winter i was locking my car via the switch inside the door, letting the car warm up, and then unlocking with the small key in my fob.
Well, that worked great until one day my fob didn't unlock the car because the lock had frozen. Spent 10mins trying to open it/warm up the lock with no success. Thankfully i was still able to access the trunk and had to go in that way to unlock the car. Must've been pretty funny for everyone going by watching a 6ft2/230lb dude trying to squeeze into a tiny trunk

The best answer to that is simple. The more times you start a car in cold weather(below freezing) the harder it is on your battery. An extreme test would be to go somewhere it is 15F and start your car, drive around the block(less then 2 miles) then park it and shut it off. Do this with 5 minutes in between each run. Do atleast 10 runs like this. Let the car sit overnight while the temperature drops near or below 0F. Wake up in the morning while it is still well below freezing and start your car. It either will barely start or won't start. There is your answer as to why.

Hell we keep airplanes outside for months in those temps and just takes one crank for it to fire off. |

Some of us think the question is moot because it is illegal where I live to leave the car running with no-one in it.....
And I cannot imagine any reasonable scenario that has one starting & stopping so often that they even need this feature. Maybe my neighborhood milkman, but he drives a big truck, not a BRZ/FR-S |

This is all stuff that I am well aware of. Still doesn't answer the question "Why?". If you live in those types of extemem conditions, Why? is a BRZ you main source of transportation? If it is not your main source of transportation, Why? are you driving the BRZ in those conditions? If the BRZ is your main source of transportation? Why? did the devil posess you and make you choose a BRZ instead of something more fitting for that type of environment? there are tons of "Why?"s. I should of explained that I was fully aware of Why? extreme cold weather is bad for anything mechanical. |

Maybe its just me being to level headed and logical. But if I had to go out where it was freezing and was afraid that a hobo would get in my car to be warm (I wouldn't, i have been cold with no shelter before). I wouldn't be driving this tiny rwd coupe anywhere. Not only for safety and practical reasons, but also for love of my car. I'd be driving some beat up 4wd, 3 mpg to the gallon tank. Like a rover or something :P |
