Post Subaru BRZ GPS Problem Poll

I've seen some people complain about how bad the GPS is in the BRZ. Honestly, I think the GPS is great and I've never had a problem with it so far. Out of curiosity, I would like to learn roughly what percentage of drivers have any sort of trouble with the GPS.

The poll is private as to not reveal your location (inside or outside USA)

You may choose more than one item, perhaps you have used the GPS both in and out of USA. Or maybe you had a problem and it is fixed now, so both "no problems" and "major problems" could be an answer.

If you have aftermarket metallic window tint AND GPS problems, please reply to this thread instead of participating in the poll. It is possible that your window tint is interfering with the signal. Again, only metal based tints should matter.

In the USA, voted minor and no problems.

When I first got the car, I would randomly lose signal from the satellites. Took it in for the GPS antenna relocation TSB (15-158-12 on this list) and once that was done, all of my issues went away.

The GPS doesn't gauge traffic & has a hard on for Expressways, so when you're trying to drive from one side of the Philly burbs north of the city to the other (Bucks County to Roxborough) and avoid 276 because of heavy traffic, it sucks.

Other than that, haven't had to many problems, just wish my phone power button wasn't broken and that my car charger only likes to work part time, some of the time, so I could use Google Maps without killing my battery.

I live in Canada and because MY2014 I have the same Fujitsu Ten GPS headunit as you guys in the States. It's been working fantastic. There is a firmware update from Dec 2013 if you register on the Subaru Navi site and download the PC software which could throw the firmware update onto the Sat-Nav SD card.

At least this unit doesn't shut the LCD down in cold temperatures like the fancy MY2013 Canadian Pioneer headunit, and won't nag you with a speeding warning. The interface on the Fujitsu Ten also seems better. Just wish the faceplate isn't so ugly.

Interesting timing on this thread. I used the stock nav system once, and it sucked so bad that I haven't used it since. I have been using my phones instead. My "free" trial on XM nav is coming to an end in a couple of weeks, and I wasn't planning to renew it.

However, in the past week I haven't been able to maintain GPS reception on my phones. After reading up on it, I believe the XM radio is interfering with GPS reception on both my phones and my tablet. I don't know what changed last week to make this problem start. Now the only time my phones work is when the car is off, which sort of defeats the purpose.

The shitty XM nav system still seems to work, but I haven't had a chance to put it to extended test. I'm going to try it for a few hours today and see if I can live with it, but I'm really close to ripping out the stock head unit and replacing it with an Android radio. It pisses me off to have to pay a monthly subscription for something I should be able to get from my phone for free.

I've never had my LCD shutdown in cold temps, and I drove it all winter. Also, never had a speed warning from it either. Other than small buttons, it's a pretty fantastic unit. I'm very happy that we didn't get the Fujitsu Ten unit in '13.

And I want an aftermarket unit that fits the entire width of the HU opening like the Panasonic factory option one in Japan.

What do you mean by "XM nav"?
The XM satellite radio and the navigation are two completely different things.
You don't pay monthly for the navigation.

If you use the traffic features of the Nav you're paying for XM

If you have NavTraffic as well as regular XM Radio. They're 2 separate products. Most folks lose the traffic when their XM trial expires, at which point you have to call in and have them add it back to your account.

That's my situation and I haven't taken it in for the TSB yet. I don't use it very often, so it's not been a big deal.

I still have to get the TSB for the dropped signal. But other than that mine works fine.
