I have the Ca-Fi using my factory USB port, so it's not really moving around. And yeah, it's a thumb drive with flash memory, not a hard disk with spinning plates.

Yeah I wasn't thinking spinning plates would be the issue but more likely it trying to draw too much power from the port and shitting itself. I saw earlier someone had trouble with the plug coming loose on back of unit too...

Did anyone get the 3G dongle with this? I am curious what networks it supports and if iIcould just get any usb 3g/4g dongle. I am debating on getting a data plan for this on T-Mobile.

i use a three port USB hub, one goes to stock usb port and second one with extension cable to glove compartment, and i try both with flash drive and never skip a beat.

I'm wondering if its' maybe only with long files. I've been listening to podcasts when it happens, and those are 1.5-2 hours long.

So, day 2 mini review:

I was able to mess with the unit a lot more yesterday evening. I previously had a Nexus 7 install, so I basically already knew the sort of things I wanted - Podcast Addict, PowerAmp, MapFactor navigation, etc. I need to get my microSD card in before I can really do anything with offline navigation apps, so I can't comment too much on that.

It turns out, PowerAmp is not compatible with the Ca-Fi. Not a huge deal, I just downloaded Google Play Music, which does work (and there's a host of other apps that'll probably work). Like I said, the stock music app is pretty awful, so unless you're all about keeping this thing stock for some reason, you'll probably wanna get a different player. The good news is that so far, the physical buttons (next/previous) seem to work in Google Play Music.

Before I got a chance to install another different music player or Torque, I ran out of space on the head unit (I downloaded some podcasts in Podcast Addict also), so I have to wait until tomorrow to get my Micro SD card.

I haven't messed with Tasker at all yet, but I did install it, so I know it's compatible with the device.

Right now, my main concerns with the Ca-Fi are the random unmounting of the USB drive and the absurd, 2 year old 30 pin dock connector for iPhone. If the unit won't randomly unmount microSD cards, I'll be happy, as I don't really plan on using thumb drives. I think Apple's official 30-pin to lightning connector does audio, but all of the knock off ones do not, and I really cannot justify spending $30 on Apple's. If anyone finds an adapter for this that works, it would benefit myself (and probably others here) if you could send us a link for it.

TL;DR - my opinion of the unit has gone up since yesterday.

I'm close to getting this for my BRZ but I'm curious if anyone has tried a usb powered hard drive yet with the ca-fi.

I'd like to load up a 500GB hard drive and probably keep it in my glove box with all my music in flac.

I'm concerned that it may have issues with usb powered hard drives.

That's a shame. Did it report any any errors? on the XDA sites users have reported it working well with other ca-fi units as it can access the SD card while some other apps can't.

I actually only tried getting it from the Google Play store, and didn't try just installing the APK from PowerAmp's site. I will test this tomorrow when I get my microSD card in.

Just FYI, it simply says that PowerAmp isn't compatible with my device and doesn't even give you the option to install from Google Play.

Getting the APK should work. Did you ever figure out what to do with the AUX adapter, would like to know when mine comes in.

I got Sygic installed, I had to side load it since it killed the Play store app when I tried to install it.

You can use http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/?id=com.sygic.aura to download the apk. I wasn't able to use this URL on the unit itself for some reason (it wouldn't download), so I did it on my computer and uploaded the apk to my Google Drive. Then I used Drive on the unit to download and install the apk. Then the app will download some data plus whatever maps you select (500MB Canada for me) and you are off and running.
