I find it funny that the bimmers are getting so bloated that the new 2 series looks to be the same size as the older e46...I had e30's and e36's and thought they were proportionally perfect...

When I read the title I thought it was going to be about how an FRS thrashed an M235i on the track.

I didn't get the joy of thrashing it on the track. My test M235i test drive was only about 5 minutes long but at least they let me take it out on my own. . I'll wait for the M2.

That won't happen. The M235i has way more tire and power.

I test drove an M235i and 228i back to back on Saturday. I didn't get to take it out on my own and the salesman wanted to drive it as well. I hate the damn 8 speed autotragic, but I loved the pull of both motors. I am still on the fence as to whether the 35i engine is worth the $4000 premium over the 28i engine. They both felt equally fast to me in making 2nd and 3rd gear pulls. After my turbo BRZ, there is nothing wrong with a smaller turbo four cylinder.

$4k? The MSRP of the 235 is $11k more. Even with M Sport pkg it's still $7k difference.

You have to option more than just the M Sport Package to make the 228i the "equivalent" of the M235i. I was saying optioned like I would want like for like the difference between the two comes down to $4k.

Unfortunately the weights you quoted here are DRY weights. Add another 150 lbs and you're closer to the truth.

I'd also like to correct a few things that have been stated, and repeated, in this thread.

The 1 series M edition was the 1M. The M1 is BMW's highly regarded mid engined sports car from the 70s. Totally different.

The M235i is NOT an M edition car. It's incorrect to call it an M2. At this point no M2 exists, nor do we know if one will exist (but it probably will, b/c BMW likes to whore out their M division these days).

It is, however, interesting that you cannot purchase a regular 235i coupe. M Package is the only way to get one, for now at least.

I just don't see any real reason to buy this car. I'm having a very difficult time seeing any reason to purchase it over a lightly used (and universally understood to be better handling and steering) E92 coupe. Looks are subjective but in my eyes the E92 looks considerably sleeker. Just look how blunt the nose of the M235i is. They share the same engine, have the same weight, but the E92 has hydraulic power steering (plz die EPS). The nod goes to the M235i for braking power, but that's about it.

3500 lbs is a lot, but the refinement is also much greater. Plus that engine goes like stink.

Personally I wish my FRS had a couple hundred pounds of sound deadening, it's SO loud on the highway (depending on surface) that I can barely hear myself think sometimes.

I have my doubts that the new M3 is faster around a race track than the 2015 Mustang GT.

I wonder how much a Laguna Blue Pearl 2006 Honda S2000 with a hard top weighs in comparison.
