Yeah, I do. I don't anticipate, yaknow, downloading tons of apps while I drive, but given the fact that EVERYTHING uses Data I don't want to have to do any tethering bullshit to make my HU work.

I've used an app called "Bluetooth auto tether" when I had my tablet as my HU and it worked pretty seamlessly.

Exactly, auto tether apps like this will make it seamless when you get in your car with your phone. And not EVERYTHING needs data, FM radio and songs stored on an SD card or HDD will not need data, and you can download an offline map and navigation app like Sygic.

Everytime I download sygic, it crashes my play store app and it will NEVER open again. Had to factory reset HU twice because of it. Navfree wont even bother opening. Be On Road works fine, but the free maps suck balls. About 90% street names aren't findable even though they appear on the screen.

I have Verizon. Tethering is blocked unless I pay them another $25 a month.

Ha, you made me laugh. No but seriously, you actually follow the crooked rules of those ass holes? There's always a way around that, at least if you have an android phone... (or a jailbroken iphone I suppose). The way I see it, I pay for the data, I'll use it up any way I want.

Sadly no root exists for my phone (Moto X non-developer edition) or I'd be all over that.

I don't know much about the Moto X root, but I pulled this up in like 5 seconds? http://theunlockr.com/2013/09/24/how...-all-versions/

Edit: Also, it appears doesn't matter if you have non-dev version at all, can still be rooted: http://forums.androidcentral.com/mot...r-edition.html

And a recent forum post if you've updated, including a link to XDA which should help you get it all done: http://forums.androidcentral.com/mot...want-root.html

Exactly! I have Sprint so I have 100% unthrottled unlimited data. I usually go through roughly between 20-30GB of data a month.

I'm running 4.4.2, still no known root exploits for 4.4.2 on Verizon.

some VERY EARLY phones have it enabled. I've got a buddy who bought his on launch day, same plan as me, and tethering works fine on his.

What this guy said I honestly think using the auto tether on a phone is better than using the built in modem if you bought it. This way you're only paying one data plan.

Just use google maps, and download your route before you leave. Works great.

But, honestly - just get tethering and use a connected navi app like waze. Having the real time traffic information is seriously worth it imho.

I was just about to ask if anyone got Sygic installed. I get the same, crashes the Play Store app.

BTW, if that happens you don't have to factory reset. Go to Settings -> Apps -> Play Store and use the "Clear Data" button.

I also had the unit reboot itself twice while trying to use Google Maps navigation. Waze seems to work well though.
