went to see both the Megane and Scirocco over the weekend.

Megane is very nice (Recaro, Brembo, 183kw etc) but resale is still a big problem.

Scirocco isn't too bad either and the stealer is now willing to do deals (high $40ks for manual with no option).

if Toyota/Subaru are greedy, i wouldn't have any problem to switch.

the megane and the scirocco are both front wheel drive so they arent really in the same class.

subjectively, they are also a lot uglier than the 86.

there are a few ways to classify class. your have chosen drive train layout but engine displacement (all 2 litre), price (between $40-50k), intended purpose (ie. performance car) etc can also be used. it's all about the individual's preference.

this is very subjective. i personally love all 3 of them for different reasons.

however 86/BRZ is still the at top of my list. i just hope Toyota/Subaru are not greedy.

theyre both turbo also, so comparisons based on power output isnt exactly the same either.

Personally if a car doesnt have at least some power going to the back wheels, im not interested. front wheel drive doesnt feel right to me at all.

as i said, it is really up to the individual how to classify the class.

if NA 2L RWD sports car is what you are looking for, there is no alternative on the market right now.

The S15 was out 10 years ago and was a 2L turbo making similar power and priced in the same range. Why can't toyota just release a turbo version? Everyone would be happy then...

I guess the good news is there will be plenty of aftermarket bolt on parts but we'd be paying out the ass again. Double Penetration?!

On a serious note, For aftermarket stuff Jesse Streeter to the rescue for parts out of Japan and USA has enough fly by night performance parts companies working for minimum or no margin to take advantage of.Add in our good exchange rate (for now) and we're --->

Im in the same boat as you

Not many choices in Aus and I need a daily I can park without being paranoid all day long.

Im considering

11 GTi golf
11 wrx
or depending on the pice - ft 86

have looked at brand new and second hand with roughly 10-15,000kms.

The more I think about it the more Im considering a Evo 8/9 and get a run-around car.
