Mine was fixed last summer. Only just got the car out from storage a week ago, and no chirps. They replaced a high pressure fuel pump i believe.

Mine started chirping after about 3 months of ownership. lived with it til the first oil change. Then the part(fuel pump) was on back order. They changed it out and the chirps disappeared for the last 5 months.
They came RAGING back earlier this week. WAY worse than before.
GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

Oh man, I have just under 1000 miles on my BRZ. I was pulling into the driveway last night as my fiance was getting back from walking the dogs. I get out and she nonchalantly states that my car sounds like a cricket.

Doesn't appear that after 2 years there have been any real fixes to this.

Had my pump replaced about a month ago around 11k mi. Not even 1k mi on the new pump and it's been chirping like crazy. It's so loud. So tempted to trade in on a WRX!

What about completely upgrading the fuel system? A whole new DIFFERENT pump, injectors, everything. Has anyone tried to weasel that out of their dealership?

I would have thought that another company would have designed a new pump outside of Subaru by now.

I think the solution to this is to just accept that this is the way it sounds. Whenever someone complains about the clacking of the injectors, the general consensus is that that's just the way this car sounds, and everybody seems to accept that. If the crickets don't affect performance and don't indicate that there's actually a mechanical issue leading to failure, why not accept this the same way?

The other day I stopped off to get gas in rural Louisiana. I went inside for a drink and suddenly heard my car running. I looked around with the international expression of WTF? on my face, only to realize that this gas station sold bait and had a cricket cage right next to the entrance.

Engine idle chirping (cricket) noise poll.

Lmao. Chirping, historically, has sounded like and indicated a problem.
Imagine if no one on earth smacked their gum when chewing. Then one day you're sitting at the mall and somone walks past you smacking and popping as loud as they can. You're first reaction is not gonna be "dayum that's awesome". More like "WTF is wrong with them?!"
Most cars dont chirp. So it's annoying being the flashy sexy person that smacks and pops in public.
Just my opinion btw.

Has anyone that has these issues continually tried a little bottle of 2-stroke oil added to a full tank of gas? 3 oz. per tank has solved my issues.... hell if anyone is in the Phoenix area I'll give it to them for $3 bucks a bottle as I stocked up on the stuff. See if it fixes the issue... our gas is crap over here.

If I put in 94 I get chirp. 91,93 fuel zero chirp. For me it's 100% fuel related.

It's definitely fuel related. Everything I've read says it's the ethanol in the fuel and ethanol-free fuel fixes it. I've noticed on fill-ups where it won't happen at all, then the next fill-up is chirps all day.

I don't know where the post was in this thread, but someone mentioned that a 1:1000 ratio (which amounts to about a capful) of ashless 2-cycle does address the chirps without much risk to the engine.
