And I'm a young college student with no kids for at least a decade.
Auto makers think Americans don't like hatchbacks that's why there are so few here compared to Europe Then again, they know we like coupes so we have more here.

Since the thicker hinges would be mounted roof level and it'd require more steel for the rear glass/trunk lid to make a hatchback I wonder what bearing would this have on its performance?

Yup, and a hatch would impact body rigidity from what I've read. Still, I would still buy a hatch instead if they made one. Went and shopped the Mazda 3 hatch last night. I'll be buying a BRZ or Mazda 3 this year to replace my aging Protege5.

Why not? They could likely keep close to identical body lines, and it would allow things like adding a rear wiper. The only downside is less rigidity or more weight (to make up for the lost rigidity).

That's the one thing I wish was different about the twins (well, that and they are a bit tall)

Yes Hatchback and Turbo were a couple things Tada "outlawed" with our cars. I get the structural rigidity thing, but then why have frameless windows?

All BMW's are ugly? When the windows freeze and I know I'm tearing up the power window motor I could give a sh$t how it looks.
