LOL! That's me missing apexes in my instructor student's STI hatch. It's his job to teach me the track and my job to make it hard on him. ![]() I had the BRZ out on the track at 5/10th in the morning when the track was still wet. I LOVE MY BRZ!!!! Even at low speed I can tell I'll be having a ton of fun driving it this season! ![]() If you're not interested in track stuff you can leave this post with dignity now. If you're still here, welcome to my addiction. You can follow on the video with my attempt at describing the experience below. Hope you enjoy it! The new DDT track is loads of fun and flows much better. However, it is still challenging and very technical. Also, don't let the wider pavement fool you because some exits in the new corners are narrow if you don't apex properly or if you carry too much speed. Turn 1 is the first corner off the front straight, turn 2 is the oval turn and so on. Turn 1-2: At the end of the front straight you'll need to brake but not too hard as the turn 1 right hander will be fast with plenty of corner exit. Just watch out for the blend line - look at the old/new pavement line in the video as this is about where the blend line will be. So starters should take note that if a driver apexes too early they might end up crossing the blend line so releases will have to be well timed. The banking on the oval is just runoff space. At the exit of the old oval (just after late 3/4 apex) the banking actually goes from "banked toward the apex" to off-camber or "banked away from the apex". It's a weird sensation because a small rise in the pavement gives us a nice blind exit reminiscent of turn 6-7 Big Rock-Candy Mountain at Calabogie; except the track continues straight instead of turning left. Turns 3-4-5 and 6-7: The next corner complex 3-4-5 is a triple apex that requires hard braking and a mid apex in the first corner, then track wide under hard acceleration, sacrifice the corner two apex and late apex the third corner so the car runs parallel to track right. The next left hander (turn 6) requires some braking and a late apex. If you apex too early the exit here is very narrow. If you hit the apex correctly the left hand sweeper (turn 7) can be taken at high speed and apexed late turning it into a double apex with a smooth arc. Turns 8-9: Lighter braking is required after the straight as the turn 8 left hander is deceptively fast. Exit this one under hard acceleration and head toward the next apex at turn 9 tracing yet another smooth arc double-apex. This takes you onto the old part of the track where the portable classroom used to be. The rest of the corners (turns 10-11-12-13) are as before only on a wider track until the back straight. This part of the track feels exactly the same a before. Turns 14-15 and 16, 17: Turn 14 enters the back straight and flows really well because the sharp angle has been removed and the wider track in the straight provides plenty of exit space. If you thought the back straight was short before it will be even shorter because of higher speed now. In turn 15 at the end of the back straight some cars will be able to simply lift and turn into a very fast corner going uphill. The kink on the exit of turn 15 is now gone and as a result uphill speeds will be much higher than on the old track. That speed will have you using all the track in turns 16 and 17 going uphill. Turns 18-19-20: Since there was no curbing installed we couldn't use "all" the track. Therefore the chicane (18-19-20) onto the front straight cannot be straightened out. I'm hoping that curbing will change that. I settled on apexing at the mid point or slightly late at every apex but could not see much difference in exit speed. So that's my brain dump of the new DDT. It's well worth the trip for a lapping day.

Summer tires and wheels are already on, hopefully no issues today getting home. I have a bit less tread on the tires than I expected. Oh and since everyone has been modding, Open Flash Combo has been ordered too. Gotta keep up with the Jones'.... |

From what I have learned from fellow forum members @UMB FR-S and @Pbrown, castles headers and tune makes a for wise mod. I wonder if it would also make a noticeable power increase with the stock exhaust ? What budget brands should I look at for the biggest bang for the money? How much power increase should I expect?
Thanks in advance. Cheers Last edited by FRSToyota86; 04-15-2014 at 12:42 PM. |

OFT & OFH
Oh and since everyone has been modding, Open Flash Combo has been ordered too. Gotta keep up with the Jones'....[/QUOTE]
I 'm in the same boat on the tire front today. Could be interesting. Are you planning on installing the OFT a little before the header. The reason why I am asking is I would love the opportunity to hear that noise at 4 K. It's the only thing keeping me from buying it. Won't be doing the header until next year. Perhaps we can meet for lunch or I'll drive out to your house after work. Let me know. Oh Yeah. Congrats on the purchase. Should be awesome. |
