You are fine.

Getting shocks helps out in the long run, but really no point if you just DD. The Spec R springs are good.

Please post a review and pics when you get them installed

These Spec-R's haven't been reviewed yet and are also hardly mentioned.

Where'd you buy them btw?

Looking forward to seeing what you think of them for DD.

So how long should I expect my stock shocks to last if I install 1" lowering springs? The car currently has 8000 miles, I'm hoping they last another 8000 miles because I really don't like dropping the coin for coilovers this year

To give you an idea of how slow the degrading process is for the dampers:

I put 33,000 miles on my last car (used from 77k to 103k impreza 2.5i) on lowering springs, and I dont know how long they were on before that. I did the press-on-one-side-of-the-car-to-see-rebound-test and it was still good.

If you use a quality non slamming spring the lifespan drop of the strut is minimal. I have run both STI pinks and swift R specs on other cars with great long term results. most recently swift R's on stock STI struts did roughly 60k miles before clunk. The clunk is common on stock springs at similar mileage. you cant go wrong with the STI, Swift R or RCE yellow. by the time your struts die there should be a few more options on the market, like maybe FEAL will be rebuilding them.
