Well the reason for that is because Subaru builds all the models in the same plant. What I'm curious about is who made the decision on the hpfp: The subaru developers or the toyota designers?

Just texted the dealer and he's looking into all of these issues for me.
Is there anything else other than the following text message that I should ask
-
Hey... Been keeping a close eye on the car and it's starting to show all of the issues reported on those social websites, such as the 'crickets' sound when the engine goes to 2500/3000 Rpms, and I'm also getting the idle revs when parked at lights or in front of my house. I'm sorry to be causing you so much grief but I wasn't expecting these issues with a brand new car. Will it be possible for me to bring it in to see someone this weekend? I'm at my wits end as to what's causing these issues.

Currently at 3,200 miles roughly, today the car started to have intermittent crickets at idle. It comes and goes...sounds like a squeaking belt.

EDIT: This morning (4/10/2014) my FRS was chirping while idling in traffic. Gas tank was between 1/2 and 1/4th. Just filled up at Costco 91, crickets went away....

What I've noticed on my car over the few months of ownership is that when the fuel level gets below half, I get crickets, when it's above half, I don't get them. I have no idea how that works out. Maybe the concentration of ethanol gets higher with the lower level of gas?

Note: I usually fill up at 3/4 or above half usually.

Car exact mileage (3190), Manufacturered 7/13.

Just passed 3000 mi with no chirping

This is my second replacement pump and so far so good. Got this one installed at about 42.5K. I use Shell 93, but the only gas that made a difference is some non-ethanol I tried for about 700 miles. I'd use it all the time except that the station is quite a distance from home.

Anyone have thoughts on how Toyobaru expects to be successful with this car in the future if they can't fix the chirps? As I mentioned before, I would have to think long and hard before buying a car that sounds chronically broken, even if performance was unaffected. And for what it's worth, the Toyota dealership in my town can't even sell all their 2013's. No 2014's are even on the lot yet.

Sweet! I didn't know my car had toyota's direct injected turbo system!

Well guys. I am right now sitting at the dealership waiting as the mechanic/tech guy takes it for a bit of a drive. Gt hey explained to me that they can hear the noise and that he rattling sound that I'm hearing may be the 'fuel pump' firing and the combustion of the fuel in the engine, and that it's normal. But that for a bit if piece of minds they'd have a look at it. I'll keep you guys posted.

That's a hell of a long diagnostic drive, if it started at 7 PM last night...

I was really hoping I wouldn't have this issue with my brand new 2014 Monogram, but the crickets officially started this morning @ 327 Miles.... Here's to louder exhaust and stereo to compensate

Maybe normal maybe not. I am at 6500 miles and started noticing around 4000 so what gives. I notice it the most actually going through drive thru. And especially after some spirited driving.

Well, since the tech has had a look at it, I don't seem to hear the rattling noises or anything that shouldn't be there. There is now a healthy grunt from the motor. I will be driving it a few more times before jumping up in joy and screaming 'oh what a feeling!'

I had the idea that maybe buying a 2014 BRZ that perhaps the issue had been resolved. I did not hear the crickets until today. I have had the car 1 week and I am at about 800 miles. I was practicing hill starts and rolled down to level ground and lowered the windows and let it idle. Crickets. Fuck! Oh well. I love this car and driving it is very enjoyable. Are we supposed to wave at each other like motorcycle riders do?

I test drove the car I was going to buy today. It had 167 miles. It was making the same exact noises as those in the videos. It sounded like lifter tick. I didn't buy the car. A new car should not be doing that. This was a 2013.

Full tank of non-ethanol 93 octane... hot day for SW WA (60's) - did about 110 miles and the chirp is back again!! (I have 15K miles on the car.)

This is the 2nd HPFP for this car. Sound came back after about 300 miles on the new unit (this was done about 6 months ago). During the 15K service, I complained about this again, so the dealer has opened a "Case" on this so a regional manager can review... (not holding my breath).

I love this car, but is sounds like it should be named "Yugo" with the dang chirping sound.

Atleast the car doesn't self destruct
