How much are you looking to spend? Personally, I love outerwear and don't mind spending the dough on some good pieces.
I prefer browns and black and a stand up collar. For driving, I'd avoid a jacket with a belted waist. I don't know what kind of "look" you're going for either. If you really want a classic type of jacket, you could emulate classic motorcycle looks. Belstaff or Barbour for a longer, softish waxed cotton jacket (Belstaff runs a bit slimmer and is a bit more expensive). The Barbour International would be the equivalent to the Belstaff Roadmaster, albeit baggier and IMO shorter. Both are belted at the waist. I used to own both, but sold them. You could also go for a leather motorcycle looking jacket. Vanson makes great leather pieces though some of them are pretty heavy. Lookswise, I've been trying to find the Maison Martin Margiela 5-zip in Black Calfskin, but it sells out super fast each season it's out. It'll cost you a couple thousand if you can find it though (http://www.styleforum.net/t/284359/m...p-moto-leather). Traditional, rugged look: Steve McQueen showing how cool a Barbour International jacket can be: ![]() Belstaff jackets are a bit more fashion-oriented these days after the British brand was retooled into an Italian fashion brand: ![]() Motorcycle Leathers, or such inspired: My personal favorite "fashion" jacket, the thin Maison Martin Margiela "5-Zip": ![]() Schott's super famous Perfecto, seen here in an unusual brown. Worn by the Terminator, Marlon Brando, punk stars from every era, and easily customizable... ![]() An example of a "modded" Perfecto jacket, worn by Brando: ![]() Military, or such inspired: Buzz Rickson's makes a special black MA-1 flight (inspired all the 'bomber' jackets) jacket 'reproduction' (black was never made). MA-1's all look fairly similar and some vintage ones come embroidered or have patches on them. They're good for driving because they were designed for aviation use. The cockpits are very cramped, so if a pilot can stay comfortable in his MA-1, you'd be fine too. They're cut shorter for comfort while seated, and cuffs are elasticized so it doesn't get in the way of operating toggles and what not. ![]() Another great flight jacket is the classic Type A-2 (flight jacket). There are so many variations out there... ![]() My favorite Type A-2 is one with a "blood chit" on the back. Major historical significance, you can Google it yourself. Going to edit this post to have more detail.

A zip hoodie or a light jacket with a small manufacturer logo or something is ideal. I was looking at the Perrin hoodie but decided it was a bit much for me.
I have a lightweight Puma zip hoodie that's perfect for driving days. |

If you can get one in the right size, a cycling jacket looks pretty cool

I don't know if this was directed at me or just this thread, but since I said satin jacket I'm replying. I hate movie replicas. You were probably joking either way. But I do want this type of jacket, just nothing on the back, or something not a scorpion. And probably black instead of white.
