I'll get hammered in fuel costs. My TDI has averaged 43 MPG to date. Even if I can average a hugely optimistic 30 MPG in the BRZ I'll still be paying ~$70/month more in fuel.
The price of fun? TBD of course.

My current vehicles with mixed driving get:
1990 Miata 28-30 mpg 2005 Mini Cooper 31-33 mpg 2007 Forester XT 21-23 mpg 2008 Mustang GT 20-22 mpg I've exceeded all of those numbers by at least 5-6 mpg on trips though, I'm hoping my BRZ will at least equal the numbers I'm able to get with my Miata once it is broken in. |

I've been using my Evo as my daily, and it's relatively modded out. Needless to say, if I were to retire the Evo to track/course duty, and bought the BRZ, the fuel savings alone would nearly justify the monthly payment (if I dont buy in cash). I live in a really hilly/mountainous area, and while the Evo is incredibly fun, it can average just under 10/mpg.

My MR2 averages 34mpg on Premium, which is ree-diculously awesome, I must admit!
My S4 averages 21mpg on Premium. Not great but for being as fast and comfortable as it is, I'm not complaining. I would've been a lot happier with 28-30mpg combined in the FR-S/BRZ but what're you gonna do?

Mileage will be about the same, vs my Civic SI.
I'm averaging about 25mpg might now in mixed driving, but also only use regular gas. |

I just did the math comparing my current 2008 HHR 2.4L @ 22.9 mpg avg, and an estimated 29 mpg avg for the FR-S automatic, and with current gas prices in my area ($3.69 reg for my current car/3.94 premium for the FR-S) I'll save ~$26 per 1,000 miles.

Mileage?
I live in the lovely city of Panama and the Republic of Panama central america... My 2004 Semi-Auto G35 coupe with bolt-ons... This car does about 14mpg-15mpg city under normal driving conditions... Highway which I rarely do and eventually combine it with some city driving... I might get close to around 20mpg...? This car is a gas guzzler... I cant wait for the FR-S. Probably not, sadly. My current car, 1993 accord, gets around 35mpg all the time. While the FR-S is lighter and has 75 more hp, I'm sure that even the best hypermiling efforts will only net mpgs somewhere in the mid-30s as well. Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to the advantages of direct injection. Plus, having the manual option makes coasting much easier.

I agree my previous E46 M3 was also a gas guzzler. The FRS/BRZ should be like a Prius compared to it. LOL

Something close to that, yes...according to the Scion forums. That was the placeholder vehicle I was researching as an alternative when the Toybaru was announced as being a 30k vehicle, before it went down again. Remember originally the FR-S/BRZ was going to be slightly over $20k.

I should be getting slightly better fuel economy (prob 1-3 mpg). Everything in this new engine is more efficient than my current but I think the small turbo is what really gives my car an edge with fuel economy. But slightly better fuel economy is good enough for me.
