Pigments and clear coats have come a very-very long way. I too know someone with a ford red-tri coat and it sat for a few years in the sun and didn't fade at all. Just a haze on the clear due to poor care which I took care of for them, since I detail on the side.

Also, another biggy, waxes and polishes have come even further ways in years. If you're curious about this stuff just go to a place like autogeek online and look at their videos and right ups about protecting your finish. There's actually a good amount of info there, and it's where I get my products.
