Is anybody else disappointed with all the driving computers the car has on it?

"Like all Scions, FR-S features the Star Safety System that includes Traction Control (TRAC), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Brake Assist (BA), an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Smart Stop Technology (SST)."

I have an old BMW because I hate computers that try to drive my car. Not to mention the car could probably be $22k without all this stuff.

How easy is it to just remove these computers? Not that I want to tear apart a new car.

You can turn them off with factory options.

You would need a service manual and a cracked ecu, for sure.

It'd be a fuckton of work, if you really truly want to remove all of that completely. Would probably need to machine new hubs without ABS sensors, etc.

Day to day, they aren't bad things though.

some of these i like, some are mandatory, some i would not want on the track (like brake assist)

I have never driven a car with these kind of driving aids and liked them. I raced sportscars for almost 10 years and I don't like any computers making driving decisions for me. This might be a deal breaker for me. This is supposed to be marketed to track car people right? That is why I want it!

I never trust the buttons in the car that turn off these features. I drove a stock CTS-V once and I turned off the stability control when I was trying to have fun with it. I drove it hard and fast into a corner with a little oversteer on entry and suddenly it snapped straight and the LCD screen in the center said something like excessive traction loss overruled my "turning off" the TCS computer. Lame

Hey Sully, why would you need to machine new hubs? If your ECU was not looking for the sensor then you should just be able to leave the sensor on or take the sensor out, but use the same hubs right?

This. It's a sad reality, but thankfully (unlike some cars), they can be completely disabled so YOU can drive the car!

or

Remove whole system, -~15lbs. Done

I think only ABS is required, but wow scion adds some genuine junk. It would be a pain in the ass to turn everything off every time.

JUST TO LET YOU GUYS KNOW THERE IS A BUTTON THAT TURNS ALL THE ASSISTS OFF

It doesnt turn ABS off though...

you hold the button 3 seconds and it all turns off , grabbing your seat belt takes longer

Does anyone know if the brake assist turns off when you shut everything else off? I would be scared shitless if it came on when trying to threshold brake before a corner on a track.

This is why it has all of those driving aids. They should always be on if you're on public roads. At the track, I don't see how the three second button push is a problem. Super high end super cars make you jump through hoops to turn off everything so count yourself lucky. Also, if it didn't have any of those things then the insurance would fly through the roof.

If you're making a dedicated track car then go ahead and rip all that stuff out, but do us; and our insurance, a favor and leave those things on. Doesn't matter how "skilled" you think you are, there's a time and a place for that.
