I think it'll be a blast. The straight line guys won't be thrilled, but we all know that's not what this car is about. I'm sure it'll be a riot at autocross and track days. I've had 150whp cars and 550whp cars on autox courses and they both have their advantages and disadvantages. I think a well-balanced, well-rounded car will be a riot.

Now although I do prefer turbo, if it can put down the same hp as the 2010 Civic Si, give a similar engine sound and weighs less than the civic, then I will say this car will do well. I had a 08' Fiji Blue Civic Si as a loaner car, and it's quick for a 4 door, very tight chassis and responsive engine.

I think the faith in the Subaru boxer producing an efficient 200hp with room to adapt to mods is the question at hand. Subaru mills are not known for their high revs or n/a configs, big displacement and turbo is what they do at best. Yamaha can only do so much to the limit of that block.
Why the hell would you want your car to sound like a rattle trap POS civic?
Also, they need a turbo option, a NA 2L engine is not enough for normal tracking (except autocross, but lets face it that's not much fun). And to all the people bitching about the driving experience, unless you are on a track there is almost no public road that you should or could drive a car like it is meant to be driven. So for the majority of people more power is a better option because almost every town has a drag strip to go play at, but very few have actual tracks. Or they can keep it NA and base and have a fantastic DD that is sporty and an thrill you in autocross (if thats their thing).

I wouldn't be buying a BRZ if it was turbo only. I think it is fine they'll likely offer a turbo option in a few years, but I definitely prefer a N/A over forced induction. I do prefer a little more torque though, and a 2.5L engine would have offered some more grunt, but if I need a torque infusion, I'll hop in my V8 Mustang. Compared to my '90 Miata and Mini Cooper (non-S), the BRZ should feel like a rocket.

This is the same boat I'd be in. Except I've had a 2000 GT-S just before my Evo, and I clearly remember that while the VVTL-i and revving was fun, it just lacked power to pull itself out of certain turns and then you had the straights...

I'd come to that I would buy a BRZ for a daily beater and just finally go all out on a punishing track suspension for my Evo. If this car were Turbo/SC, I'd be all aboard. But that looks like won't come for a few years, and it will then face some heavy competition from the new WRX that's being designed from the ground up as a focused and lighter performance car. Plus, who knows what else will surface.

I say a short silent prayer every night for Toyota to wake up and make a proper $40k MKV Supra though... lol.

No part of my Civic Si is a rattle trap or a POS. Five years old and it's holding together great. No rattles. And the engine sound isn't half bad. I like the sound my M3 makes more, but the Si certainly isn't boring. Just clarifying in case anybody saw your post and took that as an actual review of the quality or integrity of the vehicle.

Please post a video of how you civic sounds. I have never heard one without a whine or coffee can exhaust. Also, all civics = boring!

Jesus, will you lay off the bullshit? Sound is subjective, feel is subjective, if other people like their cars, no need to tell them that they shouldn't.

there are plenty of cars that have 200 hp and are enough for normal tracking. basing what you want in a car by what is around you is just as stupid as saying that since you are from texas you would be better off with a fat chick

there are plenty of civics around that are faster than your evo so you might want to shy away from blanket statements

I readily admit to not being a pro (with only 14 track days under my belt, I don't like autoX BTW), but I had a helluva fun time driving my NA 2L Honda Civic Type R on various circuits.

The stock engine/exhaust sounded great to me - and occasional passengers - especially when keeping it on the boil with the revs above 6k for entire laps. It was like driving a mini-touring car. Cracking fun that was and it didn't bore me at all!
