FI model won't be out until fall 2013 at the earliest. They won't release any other trim lines during the first MY.

edit: the old version said something like "a turbo version is coming although a timetable has not yet been set." it was too different from what is written now to have been a misquote. I'm betting that Subaru called the writer to let him know that little tidbit was supposed to be off the record.

Or the author misspoke and incorrectly described something that was not true. That is the other case, which I believe is more likely. No one from Subaru has confirmed anything regarding a turbo in the BRZ, however they have confirmed the FA being the basis of the new engine for the next WRX. So don't assume that the correction on the article means they had the correct information.

The hooks are in there for a higher output version. It's convertible-ready so chassis reinforcements would be near plug-and-play and I think Racecomp Engineering confirmed a larger WRX STI rear sway bar is a direct fit. In an interview with Top Gear Magazine, Subaru cheif engineer Masuda-san asserted this car would never see factory forced induction but hinted, "We can fit tougher valve springs, and that would allow the BRZ to rev much higher, maybe to 9,000rpm."

Tada-san hinted at a convertible version (now confirmed). Leads me to believe if ever one of the chief engineers hints at something, it'll likely happen pending sales numbers.

Now that right there would have many of us giddy like little school girls. BRZ STI version anyone?

^That's where I'm hoping for patience to payoff. I'm all for a modest bump in NA power (+20ish hp) rather than FI which could throw price way up in the 30's.

Yeah, if there is any truth to that, it would be totally worth that. I know you could probably do that yourself with a engine rebuild, but to have that from factory with a warranty to back it up would be very nice.

Upgraded injectors/fuel pump/engine management could be tough to sort out, and the intake ports are optimized for the direct injection system, that could be difficult to work out too. Also longer duration cams cost more to replace on a boxer engine too.

9000rpm could be stretching it a bit, a little over 8000 would make me happy.:happy0180:

I've had a sensor or two go out, but beyond that anything I've broken has been directly related to my doing.

waiting for 2nd year model turbo or bigger engine dont matter just need more juice, 200 aint enough. This car was supposed be out 2 yrs ago and got delayed so now it comes out already out dated, and Toyota knows it so they are working on more powerful version.

The car makes peak HP at 7000 and peak torque at 6400. The red line is already 7400.

Why exactly do you guys want a higher red line?
