I recently went to Hess, and the chip noise seemed to die down a bit, I think even more lower than with Shell gas.
There is a gas station near me that has 90 with no corn added, so I filled up to give it a test. I don't hear a thing now and it's really nice. Now, this brings up a question for everyone.

Will running 90 octane harm the engine? Here in FL we have 93, and that's all I've ever put in.
I'd love to hear some experts, or at least opinions on this. I would never run 87 as someone previous tried, but I wonder about 90. I think there are states that only have 91, so is 90 that much lower/worse?
I'm thinking I should start a new thread for this question?

I'm at almost 3000 miles. I've been using solely 91 Costco gas with 10% ethanol. Either I'm deaf and I don't hear the crickets or I don't have them.

Well.. This being my first post, I guess that I should give a bit of info about myself. I've been pining for my GTS86 - February 2014 to arrive and it did on the 31st of March 2014, which I know was only a 6 week wait, but still gruelling when you have another car about to keel over.
I am not very good with card and don't know the jargons and not a mechanically inclined in any way, shape or form.

So ecstatic when I received my GTS86/Automatic Transmission and ran so smooth for the first few days, although I started hearing a strange and faint rattling noise coming from the engine on the driver's side, as the subaru motor makes its grunts that I do like hearing.
Now, i may be paranoid, but is this 'faint rattling' sound, the one that sounds like the old wheel from the 'wheel of fortune', the sound which is being described as 'chirping', if so, then I am also suffering from it and afraid of the long term damage this may cause to the engine.

I have not yet contacted the dealer, but I will today and see what they say.

No long term damage. I've owned my car a year and a half now, 2 completely different fuel pumps. It still chirps under certain conditions. Drive it like you stole it. It's not hurting anything engine wise. Just your ears.

My chirps have turned into more of a rattle or clattering. Has anyone else experienced this?

FR-S Matt, thank you so much for the prompt response. I do understand that it may just be a noise that may take some time getting use to, but if there is something wrong, for the money that I've spent, is like to get it rectified.

I know that this is a bit of a far fetched request, but could someone please describe what people are meaning by 'chirping'? I am so lost...

It's a high pitched cricket-like chirping that occurs at idle.

You're probably hearing the direct injectors clacking. This is just a noisy engine.

Well, I've called the dealer and I've spoken with the service guys. They advised me that the faint rattling noise that in hearing from the engine is the 'induction pipe' and that since the subaru motor is designed to be horizontally opposed, then, this sound is perfectly normal. That to me sounds ridiculous, but he'll be seeing my car for it's first complimentary check up on the 26th, I'll have him take a look at it then.

If you don't have a check engine light, it's fine.... I don't see why you're freaking out over noises. This engine is loud and this forum is full of information. You're just wasting your time with the dealer at this point.

No, there's no fix to the fuel pump chirping issue and like someone said above, you're probably hearing the DI noise that sounds like rattling which is perfectly normal.

No, I've owned this car long enough to know the sound of direct injection. This is new. It is definitely coming from the high pressure fuel pump. I had very loud crickets last week, now this. It is not what you say. I am highly mechanical and have a good deal of experience repairing vehicles of all kinds, never heard anything like this.

FR-S Matt, that is exactly what the service tech said to me, and I know that I'm not mechanical as stated earlier, but I can tell a change in sounds when I hear one. I believe that there is something wrong, and if all 86's are having the same things happen, there must be some substance to the complaints. A mass of people can be wrong, but Toyota isn't gonna just come out and say, yes, you guys are right, we sold y'all a lemon.
