My autox setup is 245/40/17 on stock rims, is about as meaty as some others in this thread.

So, for 18x8/18x9, would you go 225/255, or 235/265?

I wouldn't stagger in the first place. What's the point? You like uneven wear? A square setup fits perfectly on this car.

True, but 255 is bigger than I want to run in the front. I'm staying on springs and struts, and I don't want to worry about clearance issues. I could do 225 all around, but I like the wide rear tire look.

I'm fairly certain plenty of members - in this thread even - are running springs on stock struts with 255 tires. If you're concerned about clearance, buy 245s and be done with it.

^^It's not worth the extra money to go staggered. When it's time to rotate your tires you can't cuz your not square. Think longer term not just right now. It might look pretty but that bill for 4 new tires every time is gonna suck. Just my opinion though

uneven wear has nothing to do with it. all depends on your alignment, etc etc etc. unless you're referring to the inability to rotate tires front to back.

eh, so you can't rotate, but most cars that are street driven and majority of owners don't rotate anyway, especially for those of us who have dedicated winter/summer/track setups this is minor because tires last much longer.

here is a rule of thumb that i go by. 245/40 is SQUARE on a 8.5" rim. a 255/35 or 265/35 is square on a 9.5" (obviously this is dependent on brand) and then for every half inch take out 10-20mm and bump the aspect ratio. so a 235/45 instead of a 245/40....etc etc. it also depends what look you want (stretch/square/bulge)

also depends on what brand/type of tire you're going for.

on a staggered 8/9 setup i'd run a 235/45 front and a 245/40 or 255/35 rear (dependent on brand) some tires run really wide so a 245 can fill out a 9" no problem.

with that said, a square setup fits the car really well and makes life a bit easier. but if your'e on springs/struts clearance might be an issues depending on tire size/offset/width of rim.

I hadn't meant to start a big discussion, but thanks everyone for the inputs.

Why would you only increase the tread width by 1 cm when the wheel width increases by 1 inch?
