The ability to drive off with the car without the key in it (regardless of the situation) makes this a "no go" for me. I can think of several situations where I would not want that to happen ranging from something as simple as your child playing around in the car and accidentally "driving off" to a theft situation.

I would want the car to shut off within a certain time period of being out of range of the key if it is not in the ignition. I read the manual for the one at the link above, looks like you have to be 1.5 meters from the car for it to activate which is reasonable, but says nothing about it disabling the car when it drives out of range. My guess is it doesn't.

I really like this system, my only gripe is that it's not a seamless integration into the vehicle like the factory one is. If I can buy the factory center dash piece from Subaru and install this kit than it would be perfect since it will look like its meant to be there instead of being cut into the dashboard.

i thought of this as well, but i am not sure if that portion [yellow] of the bezel is a separate piece, or if it's all connected with the hvac section... either way, i don't think i like that placement very much anyways, so i will most likely mount the button where the seat heater toggles go in the brz [green], since i'm getting an fr-s and there is just a blank panel there...

I was thinking about that as well but I would like to put aftermarket heated seat units in. I'm sure the center section is much larger than the piece you highlighted, my guess is it's the whole section including the HVAC section like you mentioned.

i can see where many people are concerned about the safety of these systems, but same thing goes with the factory units...

i've personally driven an infiniti with the key fob on the roof of the car and kept driving even after it fell off... good thing i stopped for gas in a couple miles...

it's not all good, there are some down sides, but if you are aware of them, you should be fine...

the benefits easily outweigh the downsides for me...

yea, if that is the case, it will not be compatible with the brz/prem nor fr-s, since neither of them are equipped with auto hvac...

True, like all other things, it comes down to personal choice and comfort levels. That's whats great about all this for me, just because I don't think I'd do it, doesn't mean I can't appreciate the reasons for it all, and look forward to hearing (reading) of everyone's experiences with the various options.

wow didn't know smart keys were such a big deal

system looks nice but I wouldn't want to pay for it and figure out how to install it nicely in my dash

save time and money buy the BRZ

but product looks nice

i'd get the brz/ltd/at if it didn't cost $30k+/otd... at that price point this car becomes very unattractive...

i'd mod my car regardless, so it's a smarter decision to get the fr-s for $4000 less and customize it to my liking...

If I end up going with the FR-S, I'm definitely going to look into it, I think I could make it work even if a little modification is needed.

I also love not having to take my keys out of my pocket. Push Button Start should be standard on every car in this day and age.

yep, that's why i was sort of disappointed the brz/ltd is [most likely] going to cost too much: $30k+/otd... i knew something like this will be on the market by now and it was a quick google search away... $350 for a system like this seems pretty reasonable and that's msrp... i have seen some other kits for a little less... i am speculating ~$500/installed

I think the start button would just replace the ignition key. If I got this, I'd have an audio/alarm installer do the work if dash work is needed.
