I didn't know those buttons were there either. Kind of defeats the purpose of the valet button in the trunk, though.

With new keys sometimes you gotta jiggle or it get it just right due to the key and pins being so new. Once you used it a few times it should be easier.
Maybe squirt a bit of WD-40 or silicone spray up into the lock.

(whatever happened to 3in1 oil.....??)

The whole housing lifts off the seat. Just wiggle it off the seat then pull up the red rod on each side. It's not buttons. It's a rod in the back seat that's covered by the plastic housing. When you lift the rod it unlocks the locking mechimnism in the seat

Yea not really secure from the inside. But guess not much people know about this method. Usually cars have a way to fold down the back seats from the inside but it's usually done with a lock that you need the car key to open.

I did the same thing. There's a key slot underneath the license plate lights (outside of your car) for the key to open the trunk in case you pressed the button. After that, I pressed the button again and did not mess with it anymore.

Searched the owner's manual? Have you looked for the key slot located by the license plate lights?

Have you read the entire thread? Mine wouldn't budge at the time that I tried to open it. Couldn't find in the manual how to put the rear seats down

The key is hard to turn. Put it in the lock and turn on it hard. It will release. It'll feel like it might break but it wont. I had to do it for HIN Houston.

You HAVE to release the straps from the trunk. Its hard because of the lack of leverage and grip.

Yes I have read but Kuri is right. Its hard to turn and need to put some force into it to turn the key. To put the rear seats down there are straps on the side of the back seat. Pull on them to release the lock. Bad thing for me was one strap was located in the trunk and the other was inside the car. I had a hard time because how little the key was.

I think diy would help to some people in this situation and maybe do a youtube video to show the steps. Oh btw, Zen86 where did you get the black 86 badge from?

@Cycotech I painted the badge myself. Was going for the red/black theme on my base. I need to do the same for my monogram but been lazy

I'll try to make a youtube video this weekend if no one does it by then.

Also to OP, do you have the plastice housing and rods in back seats in the BRZ? I've only done this to my FRS so not sure if the BRZ has it too
