The Mustang was originally a PONY car rather than a muscle car. Much smaller and lighter weight. Over the years its weight has gone up and down, the 05+ models being very much on the big/heavy side. This was an opportunity to fix that. Too bad...

Why does the "everyman" need a hulking 3500+ lb 2+2 coupe (it's not what I'd call a "sports car" by any stretch)? America got bigger and fatter and uglier. Mustang did too. I was hoping for a step back in the smaller/lighter direction.
but it did get smaller and lighter than previous generations, it got smoother styling as well. the old 65-66 stangs were lighter but they weren't nearly as efficiently made as the new generation.

It will always be the everyman car along with the camaro because of its bang for buck. yes its heavier than the twins and most japanese import sports car, but its not competing with the z car, or the twins, or really any japanese sports car. The z car is close but i mean c'mon, the gt will smoke the z car in a heartbeat and now with the irs on it, it will corner even better.

I think most 86 fans are just looking for flaws in the new mustang than looking at the positives. Its truly a bad ass car. I'm definitely going to aim for the 1st batch if not the 2nd batch.

2015 Ford Mustang

http://www.cnet.com/products/2015-ford-mustang/

I found a couple of threads that touched on the subject but they all seemed to focus on rumors or renderings.

Well, now we know a lot more about this car and, as I've been saying for a few years now, Ford is REALLY stepping up their game.

The recent Boss Mustang really demonstrated this. Much like the Evo and the twins in terms of handling the Boss really had the capability of putting cars two and three times its price or more to shame. The next gen used the Boss as its performance benchmarks and the articles I've been reading have the engineers saying they've surpassed it.

I've scoured the web for photos and videos. This is the first Mustang that tickles me the right way. I had the very same feeling when seeing it as I did when I first learned of the twins and got a look at them.

IRS is a plus but isn't it going to weigh 100lbs more? That's the last rumor I heard

Would be happy to be proved wrong.

Also I'm eagerly awaiting the reviews and track tests. Paper stats not equal to results.

Yeah the latest I've heard is "only" 100 lbs weight gain for the new model. Which is very different than the 400 lbs it was supposed to lose. 500 lbs net swing for the worse, that's disappointing.

I will say, this new Mustang looks much better than the old. Has a Euro-GT coupe vibe.

You can always take the spare and back seats out for a bit of weight loss lol

The early 2015's will have essentially the same 5.0 as the 2014. But, I've heard rumors that they have plans for a direct injection 5.0 that will give the GT a substantial power gain

I'd love to have the 2015's IRS installed on my 2007 GT

I'd definitely get an FR-S / BRZ over a V6 Mustang though

No ones talking about the Ecoboost engine? 300 projected tq and hp?

Even if it comes close to the projected power numbers, thanks to the turbo just a simple tune and exhaust setup would net you some SERIOUS power. And from a four banger with good mpg. I'm not a mustang fan so I wouldn't care about the engine sound.

I was set on an frs this year but I'm seriously considering the Stang. I'm just waiting for the MSRP announcement. All that new shit isn't going to come cheap

Fords 'Ecoboost' line seems to be the hot engine right now, watched the Fiesta Ecoboost on Top Gear last night and priced one out, ~18k for a ~40mpg 3 cylinder with ~125hp+ft-lbs sounds dope.

Mustang is still too heavy for my tastes on paper and when I saw it the styling is a nice update but it still looks bulky even when it's sitting by itself. Most of us are here knowing we could have gotten a faster car for less money, magazines may put our cars in the same category as the Mustang but we all know they are in entirely different classes.

I don't get why everyone is so surprised about the weight. Unless it gets extremely smaller or more expensive, of course it's going to be heavy. Maybe it's just worry that they plunked down a bunch of money for their current vehicle and think that something better is just around the corner.

Not being an expert but will this require a high pressure fuel pump and the free box of crickets like the FR-S

Front end looks like Fusion on steroids and had never been a fan of that nostalgic rear end. Do LOVE the v8 sound though

We're surprised because they told us it would lose weight, not gain it.

We were all secretly hoping the 2.3 4cyl would come in around 3100lbs.

I am pretty disappointed that it's gaining weight, that's not cool to get everyone's hopes up lol

Hardly any vehicle specs have been announced yet. The Ecoboost will the lightest all three engines. Still going to be a boat but honestly it won't be as bad as the GM or Dodge muscle cars
