TURBO!!!!
finally some balls!
screw you Tada San
The price still sucks! damn I knew it would be
priced the same as the WRX that's retarded!
I can see this car having the same tough life as the RSX.

I actually really believe this. Isn't a comparably equipped J-spec model a few thousand more when converted to USD due to the horrible exchange rate? Makes me think Toyota is letting Scion sell at a loss as an "investment" in Scion's brand image while hoping for global sales to compensate for that loss (apparently it will). The next NSX will be assembled in Ohio because building it in Japan will make it absurdly expensive to deliver globally.

I'm surprised USA is getting the FR-S (and probably BRZ) for this cheap compared to the world. Then again the low demand for this car (specs-wise) in a HP-driven country is probably what's keeping the price low.

Recently there's been more hatches that have more of a roof slope, and I think they look better. Kinda like fastback cars with a higher ass. Good for aero too!

Both Toyota and Subaru is in the business to make money..
they generate revenue by selling vehicles to make a profit...

To Toyota and Subaru the GT86/FRS/BRZ is like a neat little project
to test the waters to see if its HOT,luke warm or COLD...
once they are aware of demand or establish a cult following to
boost their BRAND image

Toyota's current image does not project sportiness at all...
and while Subaru has rally racing and the WRX STI it still lacks
a proper FR GT car... so even if both companies sell this vehicle
at almost a lost by gaining very thin profit margins they will gain
media attention, grass roots following and brand awareness from
consumers who would typically not buy a Toyota or a Subaru.

Could not be further off.

There is an article where Tetsuya Tada explains a bit how the car came to be. Originally, it was simply to create a sports car. What kind though? Eventually they rested on an entry-level, pure bones style compact RWD sports car, akin to the AE86 (which Tada-san was apart of back in the 80's). Afterwards Toyota began its research, including having Moto-P, the webmaster of Club4ag.com, basically THE AE86 enthusiast site for the U.S.A (as well as other sports Toyota's, but mainly the first gen MR-2 and AE86) come to Japan to discuss what enthusiasts would want out of a car that was spiritually influenced by the AE86. This was in 2006 I believe...I remember Moto creating a thread on the site about the whole deal. Every AE86 enthusiast was just going insane over it.

It wasn't til much later that we found out that Subaru was in on the game too, and the car would be coming with a boxer engine and jointly manufactured. Before that, speculation was abound on what type of 4cyl would be put in; 1.5L, a 2ZZ successor, etc.

I have literally been watching this car since the early rumor-mills of 2006. If memory serves, Subaru wasn't even in the discussion til....shit, 2009 when the FT-86 was shown? Hard to remember now, lol.

And now I'll officially be waiting for the turbo. Was going to wait a model year anyway before purchasing.

I heard about subarus involvement when I had my s2k which I had from 06-08... And I remember it dying. Tada made a statement that Subaru killed the idea then Subaru came back and it started agin.

No one believed me when I said there wasn't going to be THAT much of a difference in price and it appears it may be true. Yes, the BRZ comes with a few more gizmos than the FRS, but I did mention that they weren't gonna price it $2k over the FRS. My theory is correct (so far), I'm #2 in line for a BRZ at my local dealer and will happily drive away in it as others wait.

Yea, I thought the same way from beginning. I also priced high so I'll be happy if it's less.... I expected to pay $30k for Limited...

Way too strong of words, I believe. Subaru was not ready or even able at the time. Toyota assisted them in the past by relieving them of un-profitable kei development and also by not being GM and having them devote resources to an SUV that is basically unmarketable for Subaru at home or in Europe, where they are not nearly as strong sales-wise compared to the US.

With the resources freed up they had time to finally update their main engine and focus on the new Impreza which is their primary money-maker.

Once that was going well they had time and resources to go back and work with Toyota on a new sports platform, which will likely see chassis sharing with the future WRX/STI.

It is not anywhere near as confrontational as people make it sound.

My gut feeling is that Subaru is holding off its BRZ pricing announcement until the New York Auto Show press conferences.

I just got a hold of the press conference schedule and, to my great surprise, it's the first time I can recall that there's no Scion press conference in New York. This would also explain why they released pricing yesterday.

Subaru, on the other hand, has a NY Auto Show press conference scheduled for Thursday 5 April at 9:55 AM Eastern Time. While the main focus is expected to be the North American debut of the XV Crosstrek (an SUV-wannabe, Outback-type version of the latest Impreza 5-door hatchback), it would also make for a handy and logical venue for the BRZ pricing announcement.

This James R. Healey from USA Today doesn't seem to know what he's talking about and I don't see any credibility in his article.

Hey guys, did anyone re-read the article?
In case not, do so ;-) I guess they messed up some info based on the interview, as it seems like Subaru told them that BRZ's motor will be turbocharged in the WRX. As far as I know there won't be a BRZ WRX ;-)

They edited the last part to: "A turbocharged version of the BRZ engine will be used in the WRX, Subaru says."

So nothing new in the article except the price rumor.
