Got my Perrin Slash Cut Tips. Anyone have trouble getting them far enough back and past the factory dimple? They are sticking out a little too far for my taste.

Yeah, so, the difficulty level really depends on your willingness to take things apart, the tools you have, and your experience.
I don't think it was very difficult, and I had no experience running wires through a car. But I was willing to read through DIY's on this forum and others, drill the plastic trunk trim, etc. I spent several hours reading the DIYs, but not more than a couple hours total in actually doing the work: * testing camera on TV - 5 minutes * testing camera on Head Unit - 15 minutes (first time removing HU) * removing trunk trim, drilling, temporary mounting of camera, running wire into trunk - 30 minutes * removing HU, wiring camera, running wire to under dash - 10 minutes (easier the second time) * running wires from HU to trunk - 20-30 minutes? * permanently mounting camera on trunk trim once everything has been tested - 10 minutes That's a rough estimate, and I went pretty slow. The work was actually spread out over an afternoon, as I was running back and forth to iPad to make sure I was doing it right, and I was also taking breaks to watch the kids. It really depends if you're a DIYer or not. Otherwise, someone suggested paying Best Buy or someone to install it for you. I think one person said Best Buy charged them $70. -Z Last edited by zinzan; 04-04-2014 at 10:07 PM. Reason: typo correction |

You need to be comfortable removing or dislodging and reinstalling the head unit, interior panels or trim, the rear seat, trunk trim panels, and the trunk trim above the license plate. You also need to fish wires from trunk to the head unit and have some rudimentary soldering skills.
This thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32452 among others provides step-by-step instructions that were very valuable for my installation. Note that I used the Rydeen Duo camera rather than the Boyo mentioned in the thread. After careful reading of the supplied and other threads [use search to find] I felt comfortable ordering the harness and camera and then performing the installation. Most anyone who takes their time and follows the instructions should have a neat and unobtrusive installation. I printed the instructions to have in hand as I was working in the car. If uncomfortable doing the job on your own, you might want to enlist the help of a more experienced friend ... especially to help feed wires from the trunk into the passenger area. Use plenty of zip-ties to secure the new wiring to existing harnesses. Working alone the job took me about three hours from start-to-finish including an adult beverage break. I spent another half-hour adjusting the head unit line positions [instructions in another thread] to provide the best-possible indicator of actual position. This is a wonderful mod ... especially in my car that has the maximum-legal tint all around. If you don't do it yourself it might be worthwhile to pay a stereo installer to do the job for you.

I didn't solder (used heat shrink crimp connectors) or remove the rear seat. With a fish tape, getting the wire from trunk to driver's door sill was really easy.
Have a link to the guideline calibration thread? |

As to line adjustment, there's more information that I'm not finding at this time. The end of the original installation post previously referenced (and to which you replied following your installation) supplies the method for getting into the adjustment menu. Without detailed instructions I ended up fiddling with all of the gridline adjustments until I found the best-possible line positions. If I find the slightly more detailed post I'll let you know.

Yep, I can get into the menu and move the lines. Just wondering if the thread you mentioned might have some alignment tips.

Was searching when you made this reply. I didn't find any detailed adjustment instructions ... I just adjusted one parameter at a time until I got the lines where I wanted them.
