Your doing something wrong then lol I get between 27.4 and 28mpg (on the screen) every tank and I drive the piss out of it on 8.75" wide rims. 60/40 hwy/city. The automatic probably helps though.

I wonder If I'd drive the Cooper S I almost got as hard as I drive this car...I've never been to red line so many times in a single car before.

My husband doesn't know how to drive a manual, and has no interest in learning. :/
Part of the compromise of me getting a new car, instead of something older, was that he had to be able to drive it in the rare occassion that I wouldn't be able to.
The AT is still a TON of fun, though I would have liked a MT better, I'm sure. The other thing is, when you deal with a lot of traffic to and from work every day, the AT is more relaxing when you're half awake.
Regardless, any FRS is a good FRS

I drive mine pretty hard. I don't beat the engine up, but I do run through the entire rev range when I am on it. Never seen the rev limiter and don't plan on it. I let it get up to proper temp before giving it the beans, etc.

BUT, I dive into corners hard, I merge with authority and get the back loose whenever I possibly can. Actually, I realized this morning, that it was the first commute in months that I didn't get a little sideways at some point, and it made me kind of sad. I'll try harder on the way home!

Read 20.6 mpg in the car, I think that's pretty normal... For me.

I definitely drive mine differently in corners than I do my GTI.

With the GTI, when I push it hard in corners, it feels clumsy, top-heavy and not really in its element. If it could talk, it'd be saying "OK, I'll try to go fast through this corner if you want, but this is really a lot of work."

Whereas with the FR-S, when I push it in corners, it feels right at home, almost saying "Finally some playtime, let's find some more corners! Oh and let me show you this neat trick with my tail."

I also hit redline more often with my FR-S (but that's more a function of its power delivery).

I always drive in a "spirited" way. I never get anywhere close to the posted mileage, but, I believe that a car should not be a point A to point B appliance. Driving isn't all about the destination.

Got mine up to 150km/h without it breaking a sweat.
After 50km over the limit the boys in blue take away your ride around here, so I didn't push it.

Will the engine break faster if you keep driving it at high rev? Not familiar with boxer engine here.

Any engine will wear a bit faster if subjected to high stress conditions, but the boxer shouldn't be any more prone to such wear than any other engine design.

Like stated, the quick answer is "Yes."

But the more detailed answer is that it's true for all engines and mechanical parts. You shouldn't worry unless you're doing bad practices like running the engine hard before it warms up, pushing past redline consistently, etc.
