Its important to note that while it is cheaper, gas milage is usually much crappier. Not to say its not worth it.

Check E85prices.com they update and add stations as they come online. Quote:
Yes but they cost far more to refine. Growing it is only a small part of the cost of Alcohol. Sugar is easier to distill than Corn(which contains starch). Corn is easier than cellulose (Switchgrass). POET has a cellulose plant and they recently bragged about getting their distillation cost to around $2.5x per gallon. By comparison, the cost to distill Sugar and Corn is about $1.30-$1.40 a gallon depending on feedstock prices. |

The way E85 helps make the power it does has almost nothing to do with it's octane rating anyways. The octane rating means nothign with E85, you can advance the timing 8-10 degrees past MBT and it will still resist knock. It's relatively dangerous to go crazy tuning it without a dyno for this reason. If you already know where MBT is for pump gas though, knock yourself out.
Anyways, it's still cool to see 105 octane on that sticker lol. |

E85 Prices climbing..not for long though
Morning Guys ... We track E85 Prices and I was looking to see if Subaru or Scions offered any flex fuel vehicles yet and found your discussion on E85 prices.
Anyway wanted to give you guys that use E85 a heads up .. Ethanol prices at the Chicago Board of Trade has been climbing and then spiked the past couple weeks . There is no shortage of ethanol , corn prices didn't go up but rather they are having issues getting rail cars out of Chicago , first it was the hard winter and then a shortage of rail cars . So Ethanol Prices spiked.. So expect to see the price spread between E85 and Gasoline continue to narrow for the next few weeks .. hopefully everything gets back to normal soon . Still some excellent price spreads around the Country , just letting you know when you see E85 almost the same as Gasoline in some areas ..that is what is going on. Retail Stations that are dealing Directly with their local ethanol plants will still see great price spreads .. |

E85 is as much as gas in Oklahoma right now. Some of our stations are having a hard time with availability.

I was at E63 on my last tank, and had 3.6 gallons left when I filled up according to Torque app (fuel gauge was right at the 1/4 marker). I topped off at the station I always fill up at, and now I'm only at E65 after an hour (and 50+ miles) of driving. I've been filling up at this station almost exclusively too.. their Ethanol % never read lower than E76 during the past few months. At least not until this week. |
