Looking at many accidents threads, is it just me or cars these days seem to be made of biscuits/tin foil?
A bit of bump, there you go, whole thing cracked open. Some collision, the body folded like scrunched foil. I think the lightweightness of this car doesn't help either... |

Cars are supposed to destroy themselves to protect the occupants in case of impact. They absorb the energy so you don't have to. The fact that most parts are plastic also doesn't help them when it comes to breaking apart in case of collision.

I had the front bumper and one headlight replaced after a similar incident.
My insurance company and the dealer took care of it, and the car was fine. |

I'd like to see how there was any frame damage. Unless the truck hit the crash beam so hard that it went to the frame, I can only imagine the radiator core support being damaged under the hood.
Edit: sorry, I take that back. Did it even go as far as the radiator ? Last edited by Knshro13; 04-01-2014 at 02:24 AM. Reason: Because |

I got backed into a couple weeks ago (a year into ownership) - it was hit and run but I have dashcam so I had it all on video.
Insurance is covering everything and I'm coming out of it with a better bumper than I had before

[Old fart rant mode] I remember when the first small Japanese cars started becoming popular. People would say "I'd rather drive a big, safe American car, they're built like a tank and will protect you in a collision". Both my wife and I have been hit while driving vintage Mustangs. It's like being a bug in a tin can that someone hits with a golf club. Instead of the energy of the collision being dissipated by the sheet metal crumpling, it gets transferred to the occupants. It isn't pleasant. [/Old fart rant mode]
