I had planned to take a BRZ test drive on Saturday March 22nd, but had to cancel due to a snow storm. Last Friday March 28th I tried to take the day off for that test drive but work stuff got in the way. So yesterday I made sure I got my test drive in. That test drive confirmed everything I suspected about the car, so a dark grey metallic BRZ is on its way.
As for today's snow all I can say is...

Welcome Pierre! Glad to see you finally decided to get one!
Will you have it in time for the first MCO day? You'll certainly enjoy it on track. See you soon, Andre. Quote:

Brake Pads and Rotors
This is a question for those of you who have tracked your FRS/BRZ at CMP. What brake pads are you using and how do the stock rotors stand up to the track abuse. So far I'm thinking of getting a set of Hawk DTC 30 front and HP+ rear (if the stock rear pads are inadequate). As for rotors I'll get an extra set if they've proven to have durability issues under track conditions. I understand the brakes have a tendency to overheat what has been your experience at CMP during the hot summer months?
Thanks!

If you check out the tracking threads that the CSG guys contribute to, you'll see the following consensus emerge:
- The stock fluid is junk for the track at any level of driver experience and needs to be changed. - Upgrading pads are a good idea. They recommend different models depending on your experience, but generally always recommend the same compound front and rear. - No issues with the stock rotors as far as breaking performance goes, but if you track alot, then a BBK is a good buy from a cost of consumables perspective. Personally I will be moving the Project mu fluid and probably Winmax pads. Haven't decided on W3 or W4 yet. |

I got Hp+ fronts and the lesser one I. The rear I forget? They hold up fine at cmp. I went with the stocks for a day at shannonville and it really heated up I lost braking in a turn after 3 laps but aparebtly it's a hard track for brakes

Better fluid and pads are key but rotors are up to the task. I've been running HP+ for the last 2 summers. First summer I had HP+ and HPS on rears, last year I ran HP+ front and back. Took 2 seasons to run through a set of front pads, I'll need a new set this year, but then I've never been particularly hard on brakes. Still on the original rotors too, after 40,000kms, should still be good for this year too. I ran full stock brakes only for my first track day (5 days after getting the car, lol) and pads faded pretty quickly so I just had to back off earlier on Rocky Road and going into 2 otherwise they were "okay". |
