On a torsion beam style setup, this is going to cause the rear tire on the opposite side to get lifted under hard cornering. But this is totally acceptable and wanted. It does look like a dog lifting its leg to pee. But in the end, thats what you want to see in a Torsen Beam FWD car. At the last Autocross I went too, all of the fast FWD cars were doing this. FWD Torsen Beam cars pretty much require the stiffest rear roll bar you can find just so the car will rotate faster. At one point, even the Street Prepared Supercharged BMW E36 M3 was lifting its front wheels under hard cornering. I also liked seeing the flames coming off the brakes! The owners BMW was quite prepared. bneale |

you do not need any suspension mods to lift wheels on VW's (or any car with a solid rear beam)
if you're lifting the rear tire on a RWD car then you got some balance issues. back in my hood days ![]() MEGA ROLL ![]()

Rear wheel in my sig is lifted. Independent rear with no mods and 'performance' all seasons. I'm excited to see how much lift I can get this year with proper summer tires and a new rear sway bar.

This is from Brian Peters, one of the three drivers who were insanely lucky...
"Ryan Buetzer, Ken Motonishi and myself were very fortunate to have the opportunity to help exhibit and offer feedback on a pre-production Scion FR-S yesterday at El Toro. We were each given three runs in the car and while the car’s times weren’t announced, comparative times were offered between drivers. Short story is the car’s a winner and depending how well two car seats will fit in the back, would love to have one in my garage. I’ll go straight to my driving comments since everybody’s up to speed on the rest. Much hype has been created over the relatively lower grip tires chosen for the car however they worked perfectly with the overall chassis tune. The FR-S’s at-the-limit behavior rivals some of the best OEM stock cars I’ve driven. Lively and balanced are the best way to describe it, with the low CG and low polar moment allowing for amazing sensitivity to move weight around from corner to corner. The inherent chassis balance meant it was always willing to give you that little bit extra decreasing radius tuck if needed. Power was very linear, with good torque throughout the RPM range. LSD worked seamlessly, brakes were great as well. Steering feel was excellent with what seemed to be a pretty quick ratio. Quick turn-in was followed with minimal body roll and a good transition to steady state. And then that’s when the fun really began. The last truly stock car I’ve driven that offered similar levels of limit engagement and communication was a Cayman R. It’s awesome to see a manufacturer willing to bring such a focused, practical, and affordable car to market. BP is a BEAST. He has competed nationally in a SM Miata, DSP BMW 3 series, FS 2008 Shelby Mustang, and last year in a FS 2011 Mustang GT. He is also an instructor with the EVO autocross school. Believe me...what this man says is golden.
