[QUOTE=Quentin;163280]She'd tell me I didn't need $12k worth of bicycles that I have sitting in the garage or spend 12 days backpacking with my buddies at Glacier National Park like I did last summer. Pick your battles and you'll be much happier for it. We're leasing the car through my company and it is the difference of $57/month for 4 years. $2700. Not worth getting nitpicky about that little money when she's willing to let her MINI go in a couple years for me to get an FR-S. And she loves her MINI. If that package makes her happy with the v, so be it. Being able to sacrifice a thing or two for one another builds trust and happiness in a relationship. When it comes time to buy the FR-S, I'm the more likely to talk myself out of it saying that I don't need a $25k toy when I have a perfectly good 4Runner and she'll probably say, "Honey, just get the car. You'll enjoy it." She's done it several times already.

LOL, you are a smart guy, don't argue and just spent a little extra for her and look what you will get, FRS! :happy0180:

In the Corolla's defense, it did have the most technologically advanced sports engine in Toyota's lineup at the time. Comical really, for a Corolla to have that over the touted Celica Supra (and Celica GTS).

IMO, $25,000 isn't expensive for what you're getting (european styling, track performance, 53/47 weight distribution, detailed interior/exterior, boxer engine, toyota quality, etc). And as it's already been said......there are no "new" cars that can compete with what the FR-S/BRZ offers at this price. PERIOD!

With that said, I'm know there are a few of us "slightly" older that visit the forum, I'm 36, who may have jobs that afford us the ability to see this car and think $25,000 is reasonable. For others who are maybe younger, or may not have steady employment, this may be too expensive for them. In short, maybe the price complaints are based off of forum members "lack of income" which in turn translates into complaints of an "overpriced car".

Regardless, next year I'll be in the market for either a FR-S/BRZ (even if the BRZ sells around $30k) as I think it's still a reasonable price for WHAT YOU ARE GETTING. Now if they offer a TRD or STi version, that would be even more exciting but will come with a hefty price increase I'm sure.

Hope nobody takes offense to my posting.......just expressing my thoughts on the matter when it comes to the pricing complaints.

:happy0180:
taking the "most" into consideration, i guess i am one of those on the other end of the spectrum, one of the few with a healthy nest egg and good D.I. /mo still looking at a Scion as an option and I also still think 25k is too much for this car.

you can have the new genesis coupe, the new dedicated platform the WRX is going to get for probably 25k as well, or the aging '12 Evo X for 29k and both will likely spank this thing.

now understandably we're going for "feel" here, but when a comparable/better driving experience can be had for the same money... that makes this thing overpriced IMO.

and this thing is 25k. thats it. people need to stop saying its below 25k, because that 70 bucks isn't squat.

I just have to laugh at all these peeps claiming that car X (usually a GC, WRX, GTI, etc) has an equal or better "driving experience". What a vacuous statement given that, aside from a few journos who did a few track laps (and loved it), NOBODY HAS EVEN DRIVEN THE CAR YET.

So, THAT is why you keep reading people comparing it to the GC...because many of us ARE comparing it to the GC with money in hand ready to go. Your opinion or Toybarus fact on the competition becomes moot if the end user makes the comparison.
You're confounding 2 things here - I was not talking about cross-shoppping, people will trade off handling for power or space and vice-versa all the time - so my rant was not directed at what you are talking about. I was referring to those who claim the Tobaru is a fail because it doesn't have more POWAH at its price point - that is simply NOT the focus of the car, the development money went into making it a true sports car, not juicing up the engine.

I was really referring to something more than an around-the-block excursion... a serious test drive. (Not to say a short drive would not be a total blast!)

But this is the email I got from my local Las Vegas Subaru Dealership regarding the BRZ. Take what you want from it.

The 2013 BRZ is a very well exciting and well engineered car. We are pleased to have the opportunity to sell the BRZ at our dealership. It is available in the Premium or Limited model. The Limited comes with leather upholstery. This car comes equipped with a either a 6 speed manual or 6 speed automatic transmission. It will produce 200 horsepower. At this time we are able to pre sell these vehicles prior to delivery. It would require a $2500 refundable deposit with a first right of refusal. If you pre order one now it would be 90 to 120 days before it would arrive at our dealership. Prices range from $27,000 to $30,000 plus title, tax and fees. There will also be a Subaru of Las Vegas' Assurance package with 2 years/24,000 Carefree Maintenance included plus PULSE, a safer braking technology. Window tint with a lifetime warranty and lifetime oil changes will be included. The total price of this Assurance package is $1185. The standard charge for this package is $2185.00 As a new car owner you will receive a discount of $1000. A fair market premium of $2500 will be added to the price of the vehicle due to very limited availability. We have only been alloted 21 of these cars for this year.
I wonder who would pay that?

The next NSX will be assembled in Ohio because building it in Japan will make it absurdly expensive to deliver globally.

I'm surprised USA is getting the FR-S for this cheap compared to the world. Then again the low demand for this car (specs-wise) in a HP-driven country is probably what's keeping the price low.
They are not losing anything pricing that much for USDM model. The worst case, they break-even.

You can still haggle with scion's pure price, you just have to be more subtle about it. Remember, they only have to sell the car for what they have on the "menu board", if that board were to change mid-negotiations...who knows. Add in the fact that there will probably only be one of the cars for sale at any given time and it becomes even easier for that number to change.

At $25k this car is squarely in the middle of the competition and there will not be that high of a demand. You could probably argue that after the first few are sold they will start sitting in dealer showrooms for a few months before anyone ponies up cash. Don't let the dealer fool you into thinking that this is going to be some elusive car. There will be just as many of these on the road as there will be gencoupes and GTIs.
