When is a good time to buy an FRS?

Hey guys! I am new to the forum and will be getting a firestorm FRS soon! I just really don't like the headlights and the fact it doesn't have a keyless start. I know I can switch out the headlights for HIDs but only if the base model is in a good price. I did see the Monogram edition and I just was wondering how could I keep it relatively cheap? When would be a good time to purchase? Should I wait? Around $23k would be nice. I am planning to buy a used manual and I will start learning tomorrow in my buddy's Honda. Thank you guys for any help!

If you dont like the headlights of the FRS you might want to go BRZ. BRZ also has a keyless start option.

Although since you said you are going to buy it used this shouldn't matter, but the 14 was a couple hundred bucks more than the 13, so there not getting cheaper. Just FYI.

Are you planning on buying new? You will not get one for $23k new. It will be closer to $26.3 out the door or more.

I'd buy a used BRZ from someone in their late twenties who's starting a family and you feel reasonably certain they weren't a dumbass. Probably get one for $20-$22k otd, but it'll be harder to get a loan for it.

Haha. I'm getting a used one, but I will take your advice and try to find a person that is starting a family. BRZ or FRS, I rather have an FRS mostly because of the bumper, but I know you can easily replace the BRZ front bumper with the FRS one. It is just whichever is cheaper to be honest.

Frs will be cheaper 9 times out of 10. But it may be cheaper long run to just get a BRZ and already have the push start/lights you want unless you really can't live without the FRS bumper. In which case the opposite is true. Push starts and aftermarket headlights do exist, but I'd bet total it will be about $700 to install those options.

Yeah, I can do without the keyless start, it's just the headlights, price, and bumper that is concerning me. Can you confirm that the frs has keyless entry at least?

Buy a BRZ. It has HID's that are actually designed to be HID's instead instead of some kluge that creats glare for other drivers.

As I mentioned on the Pure Price thread, usually the best time to buy a car is on the last day of the month. That's when the dealership and salesmen are trying to reach their sales targets and are most willing to deal.

Regarding the prices of the BRZ and FR-S, I'm not sure where this thing about the FR-S being cheaper is coming from. The MSRP is higher for the BRZ, but because of that Pure Price crap the Scion dealers have less room to negotiate, and the Subaru dealers will negotiate a lower price. If you compare on Edmunds.com, you'll see the actual differences. I ran the 2014 AT BRZ Limited against the 2014 AT Monogram FR-S on Edmunds, and although the BRZ's MSRP was $200 higher, the actual average price people are paying in my area is about $2K lower than the Scion. It looks as though the Scion owners are having to pay MSRP or close to it, while the Subaru owners are able to negotiate it down.

I picked up a used 2013 6MT in December with 12k miles for $19,200 OTD. Perfect maintenance history, with extra oil changes also done by Toyota. Perfect warranty record too and it was CPO, so at least it had some extra warranty. Do your research, but there are some good deals on some non-beaten cars out there.

Also if you are financing usually the rates for a used car will be higher than a new loan rate. If you spend 23k used you will most likely end up paying the same for a new frs in the long run. Food for thought unless you're paying cash.

Does it really? The headlights on the BRZ and keyless start are the ONLY reason I would want to get. Other than that, the leather seats and other premium items are not a big asset in my choice of purchasing.
