sounds more like a problem with mail order tunes.

My point is a guy like FRS30 would be best of starting by bolting on an Avo (or equivalent), flashing Avo's tune, doing it in their garage with the help of someone who knows how to work on cars.

Maybe in a few years if these cars remain popular there will be a 400+hp "recipe" but I don't think we are there yet.

And I guess I wish I had spoken up in his build thread sooner, all of us share a bit of responsibility in not saying: calm down buddy, start simple get to know the experts within driving distance, join a club, etc.

And wasting time and money when his power goals are higher? A built block will take more abuse from boost and be more reliable so long as it's built correctly (and not by a scam artist).

400 HP can be achieved with no stress on a stock block in a personal garage. Like you said, tuning is the issue and fortunately for us, we have a few different options and the motor is very forgiving to poor tuning so slow progress to continually work from a safe tune to more and more powerful tunes are really possible.

No one in their right mind would use a mail order tune on a 400+ hp build.

Most people probably don't live anywhere near a tuner that can do this, ever watch the 400hp FRS video? Its embarrassing.

being a mail ordered block has nothing to do with it failing due to a bad tune, so I don't know how you got to the conclusion that mail ordered short blocks are a problem...

What's embarrassing about it? Theres a tuner here that got 410WHP out of a completely stock engine, but it broke 4th gear on the dyno so they backed it off.

I've studied the reciprocating assemblies in these short blocks and the rod bearings look like the weak point, but you have to be way up there in HP.

I understand that Toni used some "secret" bearings on FRS300's build that obviously didn't work out well so when you have all the answers let us know.
You really are an idiot. FRS300's initial melt down was from a botched incomplete install, detonation, not because the engine is fragile as you so like to preach.

You're studies also seem wrong, as was pointed out already, about the OEM bearings being weak.. They seem to be the choice for built engines..
Unfortunately none of this will stop you from being the continued jackass that you are..

I agree, I would never run a "mail order" tune for more than a drive to the dyno for a real tune. Actually, I just drove the car without a tune at all to the shop to get tuned/dyno'd. (just stayed out of boost)

You can run a great tune on a stock motor and receive far better results and reliability than a shitty tune on a built motor. In FRS300's case, it was a shitty tune on a shitily built motor.

I'm at 412WHP on a completely stock engine and problem free thus far. I know there are a few people in line just waiting for something to let go though

@regal

I know a guy personally that is running and has been running 471whp since April 2013 on the stock block. The tune is what's money, find a good tuner and have some fun.

Where did I say the OEM bearings are weak? I said they are the weak point. Every engine has a weak point you f'n moron. Several have thrown rod bearings going high hp its well documented in this site.

Next year when a nice beefy after market bearing comes out people will question their builds, its early dude. It ain't all figured out. This isn't cookie cutter Honda stuff.

This platform is still new and built engines are not for the G-D masses, you need to find better things to that making up lies and mis-reading my posts just because I don't kiss your A$$.

Getting off topic a tiny bit, but you are in PA. There are at least two site-sponsored, experienced tuners in the area. R/T Tuning outside Philly in PA and Prime Motoring in north Jersey.
