They have to prove that the modification caused the problem, or at least COULD cause the problem. So tint can't be used to decline a transmission issue, etc.

That's what I thought but they told me from both sides that the part has to be removed prior to them running a diagnostic. I'm getting pretty frustrated with this whole Subaru dealer thing. So, if Subaru ever recalls our cars because of the chirping or any other reason does that mean I'm out of luck unless I remove the after market parts?

Are extended warranties purchased by the owner subject to moss magnusson?

Been wondering this for awhile.

I think it could be more of a question about the difference between voiding warranty status and refusing warranty work.

I was told by my financer that the extended warranty covers much more than the manufacturer's warranty, in that the extended warranty is only voided by directly modifying/replacing the part (aftermarket exhaust means only exhaust is no longer covered). Judging by OP's story, apparently it doesn't make a difference though. I've been debating getting rid of my extended warranty.

You can never have too much lube. OP could have probably used some after his dealer and Subaru went in dry.

Depends. Some extended warranties are really "insurance" and in that case, no. Some are actual warranties. If it's from the OEM then it's usually a warranty (See Ford ESP).

I've personally never had a warranty issue on my cars in the past, but then again I've never owned Toyota/Scion/Subaru... Damn dealers...

Tint is nowhere near that thick, think you're confusing mm with mil (which is a 1000th of an inch)

Escalate further. Even at corporate, everyone has a manager, go up the chain.

Yeah that was just a guess, but that's just further solidifying how ridiculous it sounds to not warranty something from a piece of film. Just sounds weird to me.

So here's an update. I called a third dealership that's 24 miles away. Explained my whole case and issues with the last two dealerships and the service manager said they've worked on the BRZ before for all these issues in the past and they are familiar with this. Told me to bring it in and they'd check it out and order the parts even with an intake. She said everyone does intakes so to refuse work for one is just unprofessional. I was very pleased by her service and will be taking the car in on Friday.

Glad you're being taken care of, my dealer tried to screw me too when I got my tranny replaced and I had precisely zero powertrain/intake/exhaust mods. I had aftermarket tail lights and a few bells and whistles like hood struts. It turned out it was the regional parts manager that was screwing me, and flat-out falsified what I was claiming the problem to be, then accused me of abuse as well.

After numerous calls to subaru they straightened things out and put a note in my file, but my transmission is still listed as a one time customer goodwill replacement because they wanted to cover their ass despite there being well known problems with it.

The latest pain in the ass is trying to get the crickets fixed, and after showing them several times before, they now won't fix it unless they can reproduce the sound. It's driving me up a damn wall. I'm going to lemon my car and get another BRZ, but if this crap continues I will never buy another Subaru.

Just curious. How do you go about having your car being considered a lemon? And how would u build that case?

First thing you do is ask him to put this in writing. Feel free to request chapter and verse from the corporate policy manual; the stuff is not classified. It will help focus the next step.

If you really believe that he is wrong, call corporate and forward the note letting them know that you regret having bought this car and any other possible Subaru products.

If they are anything like Scion, they will get back to you AND the individual in question very fast. Worked for me.

There is no fix for the crickets. If you are even somehow able to lemon law your car and buy another BRZ/FR-S you will most likely get the crickets again.
