At first i wanted the frs regardless of anything, but i didn't take into consideration that it's RWD. Here's a bit of information about where i live, it snows for at least 5 months

& RWD isn't the smartest decision.

I live in alberta and the winter here is brutal for rwd. I once saw my neighbour stuck for literally an hour with his 350z, until someone pulled him out.

So should i get the frs? Or a used 2010-2012 Lexus is250/350 AWD?

frs just looks so good, but it's not smart to buy it. This is like drinking your favourite pop, knowing it'll kill you!!!!!!!

If the FR-S will be your only mode of transportation, and you lack the means to get a secondary daily driver for really bad weather days, then I would say the choice is clear on what is practical.

That being said, most people here won't recommend the practical route

They've had is350 awd since 2011.

Get the new wrx, it's only a couple grand more than brz.

Meh, if it snowed half the year where I lived i'd have an sti probably. I like my car but it's not the tool to tackle a foot of snow. This winter has been hard and I've been driving an accord with snow tires and I'm glad I have that luxury.

I would do the IS350. I thought about one before my FR-S and sometimes I wish I chose to go with it. I do miss the luxury of having a Lexus and enjoying those creature comforts. Plus, it's AWD and you said that you would feel more comfortable with that. I would take one over a WRX any day. If my FR-S wasn't this fun to drive, I would've already sold it and gotten the IS350 I thought about.

In your situation (snow 5mo/yr), the new WRX looks very tempting. Subaru reportedly tried to engineer it to have similar turn-in and body-roll to a BRZ. If they managed to achieve that, the handling should be very impressive.

I would go with something more practical than the FRS for your neck of the woods.. This is a great fun car.. But if you have to depend on it year round.. I would get something more capable for the white stuff..

If you really want it...

Look at getting a BRZ because at least if you need to trade it in for a WRX you should be better off in the deal.

There's a lot of dead cat space in the wheel well...I wonder if you could run tire chains and be okay. The tire size is that of a Prius and I see there are chains for them. Have you ever driven on chains before? Then I'd probably do studded snow tires for when you're not running the chains.

I'm in the same boat right now. I have a kid coming in a couple months and we don't have a second car yet. The fuel economy of the twins knocks the socks off an IS and since I drive about 30 miles a day, it's a decently important factor for any DD I have.

I actually have no issue with using the twin as a baby hauler, but mom isn't going to be happy in it. I'm going to give it the college try when I go on paternity leave and go from there. I'll probably go with an 08 IS250 because I hate the swooshes on the 09+ model years.

Well now, I wouldn't consider a FR-S/BRZ for a full time child hauler unless they are big/old enough to buckle themselves in ..... and by that time they are almost too big to fit into the "back seat".

I completely agree. Luckily, I'm only 5'6 and mom is 5 even, so we have the tiniest bit of wiggle room. Mom is also planning on going back to work in September, which would necessitate getting a bigger second car, hence the college try.

Otherwise, I'll have a new used car in September.
