When the 86 tests come out and we all see where it stands, we'll discuss this sports car thing again. Or, when Toyota and Suby unveil the inevitable FI/more powerful model with higher end suspension. You might as well call me a Supra, MR2, Mustang Boss, Elise/Exige, and Porsche fanboy while you're at it, since I mentioned them as well.
I would argue an auto enthusaist isn't all about the numbers. Numbers don't prove anything to me. A Miura has a 15 second 1/4 mile. The first lotus exige had a 9 minute Nurburgring lap time.

Any car that was designed from the ground up to put an emphasis on driver involvement and driving enjoyment that relatively puts other super cars to shame (such as the GTR) I would say is unquestionably a sports car.

I think your definition is clear, no need to continue responding. To you a sports car is a bunch of numbers and you think that makes you an enthusiast. We will agree to disagree.

Is a Bugatti Veyron a sports car? How about the Juke GT-R one-off? BMW X5M?
Very impressive numbers from those three as well.

This EXACT car I can see for $24,930. Foglights AND rear spoiler. Also assuming Bespoke is standard. I don't see anywhere disclaimed vehicle pictured with dealer installed optional equipment.

For that matter, I see very few Scions that are "tricked out" as much as I do Civics and F150s.

Maybe its a Southern thing..

In my Scion crew we have had everything from an 70yr old guy with an oxygen tank to breathe with (xA owner) down to a 16yr old kid (dad bought him an tC).

Here's something to think about:

Why bother with a Ferrari or Lamborghini when a GTR does the same thing, except much faster at a much lower price?

Why bother with a Ferrari or Lamborghini when a Corvette ZR1 would do the same thing at a much lower price?

why bother with a Lexus LFA when a Ferrari or Lamborghini can do the same for much less?

Who'd buy a Scion IQ at its price when you can get any other subcompact Econobox for the same or less?

Why bother with say a Corolla XRS when you can just get a Camry for less?

who'd buy a Z4 when you could just get a Miata for way cheaper?

Same logic applies here with the Ft86 and its pricing fiasco, and by this logic I'd expect you all to be running up to your nearest Ford/Hyundai/Nissan dealer and just give them your money for their Mustang V6, Genesis, 370Zs and be done with it. And i bet some of you have either STI's or the like...but it makes me wonder...why'd you get an STI when you could have just gotten a cheap 1 series BMW or something......?

Everyone feels like they've gotta be right.

All I know, is that I'm buying one of these cars, and I plan to enjoy it. I bought a WRX wagon, and I've enjoyed it. I had a 85 Corolla GTS, and I enjoyed it. Stop talking about what it is, and go enjoy it for what it is. A fun car. Any car is fun. Fun is what you make of it. Some people need more power, some people need AWD, some people need a turbo, and some people need to have loud obnoxious hondas. It's their prerogative as well as their choice. I'm glad the car world is so varied so we get so many different takes on something so similar. It keeps things fresh.

No one said the FR-S was to be targeted at the same college kids (could be "I graduated from college and have a career now" kids)

Reality
The mean age of a Scion owner is 30+years old.

And with the FRS I'm sure the age will be even higher.

In the beginning I was against buying the Scion, but after seeing just how close it is to the BRZ, how mature the car actually looks, if I can save X amount of money for practically the same car, then why not.

Not to mention I like the interior and exterior styling a lot more on the Scion.

EXACTLY! I have a GTI and absolutely love the car and have tons of fun in it. Now....if only I got a manual. The only reason I am considering getting this car is because I didn't get a manual. I think I would pay what I paid for my GTI for the BRZ and not have a single regret.

Let me oversimplify things a bit here. Existential discussions about the identity of a sportscar aside.
