There is no reason to get a 2014. Just think of the sales tax that you will never recover in addition to the massive hit from depreciation. Thousands wasted. I would try to coerce SOA into giving a 100k warranty at a reduced price. |

Thank you all so much! Lots to think on today before the sales guy calls me back! I guess my biggest concern is will the engine be the same, and will I be in worse shape with depreciation in the future with the engine work since the dealership now isn't considering that and a dealership in the future will. Right now I can walk away from the car without a loss (other than of course the last 18 mo. of payments, lol). I'm glad to hear the majority opinion is that it's not the car's fault (also will make note I need a new body shop on the future).

Why not? It's a perfectly comfortable car when driven normally. It's a bit rough when driving hard and fast, but so is any performance car. For a sports car, this one has very polite road manners.

I read Zion's post to mean my exact car and not the model, but maybe I misunderstood. I am a retail store manager and I have about a 25 mi. commute, plus quarterly road trips to visit family (normal weekly mileage about 300). The car is actually really nice for my commute, especially compared to the Genesis 2.0t coupe I traded in.

I bought mine at the end of Feb 2013, I have 34k miles including 6 track days and have had 0 issues. I drive it 120 miles a day.
As far as the engine goes, there's no reason to think it won't be the same after a rebuild unless the people doing the work are incompetent. Also I would not assume this will happen again, if it were a common thing there would be tons of threads on here about it.

The AC condenser and radiator on this car sits below/in front of the normal area for the core support for most other cars, and there's really not much room to move around once it's been hit. Looking at the top hose, even the radiator cap was mounted in a location that is an engineering compromise. What I'm saying is this: a very minor accident on this car in the front can easily result in a lot of damage that is both visible and hidden. It's very much in hindsight but looking at this car vs. a Toyota Camry (for example), it's no wonder why so many cars have huge damage from accidents. -alex Also: some guy in SoCal has over 55-60K on his 2013. |

Well, I decided trading it in was the right decision for me. Dealer is giving me $21K on my trade (I owe $20.8) and the 2014 at about $100 over invoice as near as I can figure, plus the Subaru rep I've been talking to is giving me the 6 yr./80K mi. extended warranty for free ($100 deductible version). My payment will actually go down because of lower int rates now but of course I basically leased the current one for 18 mo. At least I'm finally getting the color I originally wanted!
Thanks again everyone for the input.

Thanks
I'm really excited about picking it up tomorrow. Might shed some tears over the old one though, especially if it's in pieces when I go to clean it out. Poor car.

Ommgggg I had the Forester for two weeks and I forgot how much fun this car is to drive! Also haven't had my summer tires since November, lol. I had to take it on a 30 min curvy road detour on the way home. My poor old car was sitting on the lot with an empty engine bay, part ETA isn't until sometime next week.
