very nice. you couldve bypassed some more 880 between castro valley and fremont by taking palomeras, and even calaveras from fremont to milpitas.

Oh we definitely thought about it, but it was 10pm by then and it was definitely time to take it straight and easy. Palomaras is my usual route from that area. ![]() There were a few points up north farther where we meant to take less highway, but missed turns or traffic on the right roads caused us to take a less than desired route. In all it worked out really well. I'd do it again. Did it all on a half tank of 94 octane from the sunol station. Which is amazing considering I was far from easy on the BRZ. Cheap fun! |

Total time was pretty long, but that was due to the several stops. We went from 11am until about 10pm. Mileage was around 250. And my friend was pretty sore, so was I. My left shoulder got pretty sore from steering, while my right was shifting. :p We agreed it was completely worth it. |

"The hills are alive with the sound of... FA20?" Was driving back to the bay and had some time to kill, so took one of my favorite long-cuts: Patterson pass - Tesla rd.. Everything was so green from the recent rains and the freezing cold breeze kept the wind mills dancing

I just used my lunch hour to do a spirited blast of Pinehurst. There was some traffic out including slow cars, motorcycles riding dangerously close to the center line, and cyclists.
There was also a tree blocking half the road that I stopped to take a picture of on the way back! On the way through it the first time I couldn't even get over far enough to keep one of the branches from smacking my windshield/pillar. I thought it was strange that there were orange cones placed, but that the tree wasn't cut up and moved from blocking the road. Side note: I may need to invest in some rally armor mudflaps! Side note for Alameda residents: It's not worth having your windows down to try to listen to your own exhaust note while going WOT through the Webster tube - too many noxious gasses! And, I think I went deaf at 6.5k rpm in 3rd gear!

yeah I ended up doing a solo cruise down Mines Rd and over Mt. Hamilton on Saturday on my way to the Fems meet. Came across same issue, a downed tree along Mines but it wasn't as severe, easy to get around it (though the road is narrow at that point). And my car is equally dirty afterwards lol.

Ahh, I gotta get back to Mines! I miss it! Was there less gravel on the road when you went?

A bit less gravel than before, but it's still there. Use caution.

Do it! Although it won't save you from splashes on your side mirrors ![]() Amen. Its usually too noisy to hear anything, let alone my quiet exhaust down there. Side note: one of my all time worst experiences was riding my bike down the tube to Jack London Sq: noise from the traffic was crazy loud thanks to the enclosed space, combination of noxious fumes, narrow walkway and steep grade made it hard for me to pedal, so I had to get off and walk my bike up, which prolonged the torture even more. I've taken the embarcadero to JLS ever since. |
