Cross post from the gauge cluster LED swap thread:

I changed my LEDs to white, but left the digital speedo and odometer red. I also removed the TPMS LED because that thing is stupid.

Tech at the dealership last week got all wide-eyed when he saw my mileage. Highest he's seen come through, though probably not the highest on the forum. I'm at like 42,8xx right now with no signs of slowing down!

Dang! That's a lot! Mine is pretty high considering I've only had it since June. I'm at 19,000 in only 9 1/2 months.
I work out of town so that's what screws me over.

Didn't do anything specifically today, but I was finally able to test out my mods from the past couple of weeks on the AutoX course:

-RCE Yellow Springs
-17x8 +45 Gunmetal RPF1s
-245/40/17 Dunlop Direzza ZIIs
-22mm Strano Front Sway Bar

At this point, this is a completely new car than what it was new. There is tons of grip, very little body roll, no oversteer and pretty easy transitions on the autox. For the amount of money I spent on all of those, I honestly couldn't be any happier.

You guys realize that there's a reason those lights are red, right? It's not just cosmetic.

White light impairs night vision. When you shift it to red, it helps to preserve your night vision so that you can see more detail in the dark. This is why pilots use red lights in their cockpits to read charts and why Mini Mag Lights come with red lenses (so that pilots will buy them). This is also why tail lights and rear-facing reflectors are red or amber (so that you don't impair the night vision of people behind you).

I don't know how bright your white LEDs are, and you may be able to dim them so that they don't make much difference. But generally speaking, having white (or blue, which is even worse) lights on your dash runs a greater chance of impairing your night vision and also contributes to eye fatigue as you strain to see in the dark past the white lights.

The red lights bugged me a little when I first got this car because I have always associated red = warning. But after driving the car for a while and realizing what a difference they make at night, I'm not only leaving mine just like they are, but I'm also considering changing the lamps in my Jeep to red as well.

I'm not telling you not to do this, but you really ought to know what you're giving up if you do.

Trust me, I know the benefits of using red (and green) lights. Simply put: I don't care for the red/amber. It looks ugly.

im aware of it. just don't care. also the FRS comes with white lights. so not sure if that was truly a design point that Subaru and Toyota considered or just something they did to separate the two versions.
