Well, dad&sonFRS, that is a nasty scrape your car suffered.

I'm glad you are OK and the damage was limited.

Handling a car under adverse or unexpected driving conditions usually comes with driving experience. At age 17.5 your just beginner, so don't blame yourself too much.

All three of my kids (2 boys; 1 girl) wrecked their cars within 6 months after getting their driver's license. They are now in their 30s and 40s and hadn't has an auto accident since their first one.

Just get your car fixed and "take it easy" in the future.....

Clarification: your $50/month insurance hike equates to additional $600/yr to your annual insurance bill (($50*12mo)+annual insurance bill). Seems a bit high, what if you increase your deductible to $1,000 and take a point/insurance reduction course to offset this hike?

Thanks having the accident was both a good and bad thing , the bad being the obvious , but the good is that no one was around to be effected by my inexperience , and it also helped me remember of my inexperience and i still got along way to go. I learned though the road may look nice and everything seems ok, some conditions are unpredictable. So I'll take the good with the bad lol

My car is insured under my mom since I'm still a teen so the hike didn't really send my payment through the roof. All in all it's around 2000 a year to insure after. Whether that's low or high who really knows as every plan varies obviously. That second option does sound like a good idea since my deductible is already 750. Anyways lets hope dad&sonFRS gets to enjoy this awesome machine once again.

Location makes a huge a difference. The rates vary by state and in some cases by city/county according to the accident rates in the area and claim amounts. If you are in an area that has more accidents and/or higher claims, your rates will be higher because you are driving in a riskier area.

An example: I was living in Nashville, had comprehensive insurance on my truck and was paying $330 per six months. I moved to Louisiana and saw the exact same coverage on the exact same vehicle and driver jump to $700. Then it jumped again to around $800 after six more months. It more than doubled.

The reason is that in Tennessee, the accident rate is not only pretty low, but the average claim paid in each accident is also lower. In Louisiana, people drive like complete effing idiots, and when they have wrecks they all pretend to have whiplash and file injury claims. We have drive-thru daiquiri bars down here (I'm not making this up), which I'm convinced might have something to do with all this.

If the location in which you're living costs the insurance company more in claims (like mine), they're going to charge you more to insure there regardless of how safe a driver you are. That's why they want to know where the car is garaged rather than where it is registered, so they know if you're actually doing your driving in a risky area. In finance we call that the risk premium, where higher risk is offset by a higher fee.

Christ. It wasn't the fault of the car, the tires, or the electronics; nor was it "bad luck." It was simply poor driving, caused by a lack of skill, knowledge, and experience.

Yes, it sucks your car was damaged, and yes all of us have done stupid shit. But instead of blaming everything except yourself, now is the time to man the fuck up and learn from your mistakes. Taking a driver training course as others have suggested is a great idea. Otherwise you might not be so lucky as to walk away without injury next time.

Be glad you're safe, the car can always be fixed. My FRS was in a 6 car accident last night, coincidentally caused by a careless BRZ driver. 4 (possibly 5) cars are totaled, but nobody was hurt. That's what it really comes down to.

Sorry to hear about this! I hope all involved are ok? It sounds like the car did its job and kept you safe! Where and how did this occur. Not trying to be up in your business but any info may prevent someone else from causing a situation that gets someone hurt or killed.

It was midway through Ortega Hwy around 10 PM last night. I was on my way home with a BRZ in front of me. The BRZ tried making an illegal pass during a right turn and hit oncoming traffic, then came back across my lane. I slowed to avoid hitting him and was rear ended pretty hard. Four cars so far. 10 minutes later, two other cars collided in an effort to avoid the first collision.

My car was the only one without airbags deployed. Luckily nobody was seriously hurt though!
