This is absolutely ridiculous. The arguments that are constantly made concerning "real" versus "fake" wheels are perfect examples of elitism. I am not saying that airing your opinion on the topic makes you good or bad, what is more important is to understand the powers at be. Part of what makes living in a "free" country beautiful is the freedom of consumer choice. We as consumers are allowed to cast our "vote" in favor or against products.
My vote is my vote, and your vote is your vote. If everyone had the same vote, then what would become of freedom? There are hundreds of people that I see in passing everyday, many of them with different consumer choices than my own. Barring obnoxious perfumes and colognes, it would be inappropriate for me to stop every person to let them know how I feel about their free choice as consumers. Judging people based on their personal tastes closes off any chance of finding out what similarities they may share with you. Nobody wants to be negatively judged for their color, gender, sexual preference, fashion, hair, etc. Why is ignorant judgement so acceptable when referencing consumer choice? |

^ This was posted on a discussion forum. So we discuss.
I think everybody here is agreeing with "to each their own". I have a hard time understanding why it's elitism when some like to buy "real" wheels, but it isn't considered posing when some like to buy "fake" wheels. Quote:
The idea that this concept applies to other day-to-day purchases doesn't work: you don't buy wheels every week as you would with food. Poorly fabricated shoes aren't going to kill you, poorly made wheels might. (Notice that I said "might", and not "will". Put down your pitchforks) I, for one, am of the mindset of quality over quantity. I may not have a lot of clothes, but they aren't from Wal Mart. Side note: If you aren't paying for the best schooling your money can buy, then But that's another debate for another thread, for another time

I think this topic is so petty - especially in comparison to the watch industry. So many people, whether or not they know it are wearing watches that are blatant knock off's or made by companies who just happen to be inspired by another manufacturer's design. (Blatant knock-offs might be something along the lines of a BBS LM replica, then rocking the center caps to go with it; an homage design might be like the Enkei 57Extreme lookalike).
I'm the co-founder of a Swiss luxury watch fanpage (Panerai Central) and I can tell you the problem is huge. Companies like Rolex have to deal not only with attempted direct replicas, but also the slew of companies taking after their designs... So many people wear watches inspired by real timepieces - should I complain and tell all of you to cough up $7,000 to wear an entry Rolex Submariner? I could also tell you to buy a used one, just don't rock replicas. ![]() Anyway, it's really not a big deal. Me - I like RPF1's, they're cheap and light and proven. If there was a replica of an RPF1 that was even cheaper, perhaps lighter and also proven - I'd buy that. Why the hell would I want to pay more? Same reason you wouldn't pay $7,000 so we could wear the same watch when your phone tells the time for free.

Oh man...
ALL (and I do mean all, even Rays) of the JDM wheel companies have copied from each other. People sling mud around because they assume the expensive wheel is the original design, which is rarely true. Now, there's a ton of hate for Rota and XXR, which I find amusing since wheels have to be tested and certified (they are) and Rota is an OEM manufacturer in the Philippines. Having expensive and rare wheels is all well and good on a show car, but unless they're multipiece wheels with easy to find hoops, they're simply unfit for real world use (there's a reason you see tons of sets of 2 and 3 wheels on craigslist and the like). Wheels need to be looked at as wear items because of this. Having said that, would I buy Enkei over Rota? Yep, because the same style wheel is going to be lighter on the Enkei and it won't break the bank. Regardless, the entire subject of "knock off" wheels is idiotic because of what I've already said. When you get into knock offs of other items is where my view changes a bit... |

I certainly do like Enkei's model (using a set myself). They have functional wheels like the RPF01 and other very stylish wheels that stay with popular trends; all within a very reasonable price.

Lol people trying to justify expensive wheels by putting down copies. Guess what guys everyone steals from everyone.
Why people get so heated over this shit I have no clue.
