I would say if you do pay cash for a car you are being a little careless with your money. The name of the game is cash flow and opportunity cost, if you dump 20k+ at once you just lost the ability to invest in assets which can earn more then 2% return over the lifetime of the loan.

This whole debt = evil mentality is pretty dumb. Yes, if you can't afford your debt it's a bad situation, but all debt is not necessarily bad.
this is correct.

look at any medium to large businesses and look at their debt account.

obviously everyone knows that a car is probably the most worthless financial decision would could make, but i hope most people realize that a car isn't an investment; it's just an expensive toy.

with interest rates this low, it's probably not the best idea to just throw 25k down the drain. lets say you want to purchase a house down the road. guess where the 25k down payment went to?

I can understand if people were complaining about $4-6k over the original estimates. If this car was going to sell for $27-29, I woulda balked.

As for my comparo's, I meant to say the Gen 2.0T is a different beast entirely. On that same note, the MX5 is slightly different too (less hp BUT less weight!) but the MX5 is the closest to the FR-S. The Gen 2.0T is more better compared to the 1 series, 'Stang, etc. More a french knife than a surgeon's scalpel (FR-S / MX-5).

As for whoever said my Gen 2.0T cost is off, I got it off of Hyundai.com using zip code 14120.

EDIT: Interesting, if you enter a zip code further south in the US, the Gen 2.0T price drops. I guess they are trying to deter us Canucks from hopping the border and buying US cars into Canada.

Same argument can be made for why people won't jump from a FRS to a BRZ Limited. "It is just a few thousand more. It will only be $40-50 more a month." Well for some people that is more than they want to pay.

And yes the GC 2.0T definitely starts at $24,250 MSRP.

Oh like invest it or take it for a walk. If you down pay 10% on a $30k car with rates like 3.0% you're talking about a few hundred dollars over the life of the loan. Chump change.

I was going to pay cash myself until I did some research and it seems I'd be outta my mind not to finance when using someone else's money is so damn cheap right now. I could use that same money I was going to pay for the car with and use it for down payment on another proprety, which I think I just might do. So food for thought guys...
To expand, you can get a 5 year CD with 1.8% interest. If you can land a car loan for less then 1.8%, which is very possible in today's environment with good credit, you are throwing money away by using cash to buy:

It most likely will since many dealers at "dealer installed options" to the car so it will be very hard to find a bone stock car at MSRP. That is how a lot of Scion dealers make extra money. Look at some of the pricing on tC's. Not saying all Scion dealers do this, but many do.

Because the Scion badges clearly makes this car worse than its Toyota counterpart.......

Quoted for truth! Money management 101!

I spent my $45k in investments for a property that cuts my commute time from 90-110 minutes down to 8-10 minutes. Saves me $2000 per year on gas too.

Now THAT is a worthy investment.

Come on Scion Canada. Announce pricing at par!

I'm going to say this once: READ MY POST.

Use zip code 14120 - I just triple checked.

That is odd.

I just looked up Gen Coupe pricing. As far as I know Hyundia doesn't have regional pricing differences.

Invoice:23,060.00
MSRP:24,250.00

That said, I never liked the Gen Coupe or Mustang (I can't stand the Mustang) and both are significantly different cars IMO. Whether its a better value or not is another discussion.

Also, fantomi is a huge hater on this car, so don't let him get to you.

Hyundai Canada's website says the Genesis coupe starts at 26,500.......
Im thinking this car may end up being equivalent to that up North.......

Will Canadian pricing be released tom too? If Scion does Canada a solid and makes pricing on Par, I will buy this car, if not...

But then again I can imagine the bitching & moaningg.

26500 is still pricy at a low. Thats what... 32 on the road? 8-10k extra still gets me a nice 128. Decisions.

26500 + 13% tax + $1000 freight is $31000... I hear ya though, it's definitely more than I want to pay.
Edit: Your right, it's closer to $32000 with all the extra bullshit.

Some penny pinching people here in this thread. Someone should not be stretching their budget just for a car.

The headline article here has a typo. It says "The 6 speed manual model is priced at $25,300" when it is really referring to the automatic.

I don't know about this. For $2,000 less I could get a much more powerful Mustang.
