Holy crap, this thread got heated quick.

Well, I'm waiting for the BRZ pricing - then compare both.

I guess I'll do the same.

BRZ's are supposed to be nicer than the FRS correct?

I wouldn't touch an off-lease 335i with a 10 foot pole...not with their fuel pump problems. I mean it's not every 335i that'll have that problem, but I wouldn't risk it either.

I noticed some folks are cross-shopping to used cars in completely different classes (which is normal), but forget to factor in maintenance and repairs to the cost of the car. Granted a 'Vette and the like aren't THAT bad (I wouldn't know), I DO know a BMW, Porsche/Audi isn't exactly pocket change.

Say what you want about the price, but you have to love the Japanese approach. If this car were coming from Germany they would charge you more for making this car lighter weight then the BRZ (see Porsche Cayman R )
You know...A Cayman S fitted with all the options standard on the Cayman R comes out several thousand dollars more expensive than the Cayman R. So you're mistaken in that respect, but I digress...

While I will definitely go out and test drive this car, for this price, unless it absolutely blows me away, no way I buy it. Too much. I know it's a used/new comparison but I would rather stretch my budget a few grand more and buy a used Cayman S. The money it would cost to modify an FR-S to the performance level of my S2000 looks like it will cost too much. And I'm not interested in getting a slower car.

Oh well, paying attention to the gestation of this car has most likely just been a large waste of time.

If this is the actual price, it is what I expected. What do you expect from a car that is going to drive like a Porsche Cayman for only $25,000. A Cayman costs @ $52,000, the FR-S is half the price. I understand the Cayman will have more luxuries but FR-S will drive the like the Cayman. The FR-S is still a deal for the driving experience. I would loved to save money but I also understand that the FR-S is going to be worth every penny.
If you don't want to pay $25,000 for the FR-S, then goodbye. I will be having the time of my life driving my FR-S (Toyota GT86) in the canyons, hills, and mountains. While you will be driving some other piece of shit car (Genesis, Veloster, civic or a V6 stang) in that price range. The FR-S is going drive better and last longer (Toyota and Subaru reliability) and not fall apart like those other cars will .

I would say Vettes are bad just because if you have any fun with them at all, you will be paying for new tires pretty often. BMW/Porsche/Audi used? Forget about it. 1k here 1k there and you will wonder what the big deal is. The only way to own a BMW is with their new lease pricing with fully covered maintenance.

Damn I wish that this would be the price here in Australia. Man we're going to get robbed for at least 40k.

5 year loan on a car has been nothing new. I started buying new cars since the 90's, and it's been the same. I've seen people taking even 7 years.

Who cares if it's 10, or 100? Just pay it off in 2-3 years if you can afford it.

I was a little curious about this, because a Cayman would be really cool.

So I looked up Cayman prices (not even Cayman S prices) and the average was around 41k, with the very lowest being 25k for a well beat up cayman with 80k on it, and the high ones being in the 60s.

So... what's with all the cayman or cayman S comparisons? Can you really just easily shell out an extra 10-20k, or are you just yapping on the internet ?

For people that live like idiots sure. If you can afford a car you should be able to pay cash. Otherwise you can't really afford it. Paying interest on a purchase like this (depreciating asset) is silly. If you always live that way then you'll never be able to afford a house, children, retirement, etc.

A brand new FR-S at around 27k OTD?? I know these two cars aren't equally comparable, however, based on the cost, I think I'd rather get a used 370z.

At least with Subaru you won't have to deal with the dealer adding a bunch of dealer add ons that you don't want (i.e. racing stripes, under kit neon lights...etc.) and markup the car significantly more than MSRP and not be able to negotiate.
