RallyX'ing a BRZ
Just wanted to throw this out there. I'm definitely excited about how much potential the BRZ has for AutoX, but I'm a little sad about abandoning my current love of RallyX (basically, AutoX on dirt), since the car sits so low and has such low ground clearance. But I can't help but think of how much those same benefits for AutoX can make this car such a good competitor for the 2WD stock class, given its light weight and RWD set-up (RX7's have done very well in this class).
Besides some needed under body protection (it looks like the car already has a skid plate!) and probably higher profile tires to eek out a little bit more ground clearance, I think we may be on to something here. I know, I might be asking for a bashing here, but please, be gentle, its only an idea...

hey guys, stop being backseat mods. the op was pretty clearly looking to start a discussion on potentially rallycrossing the car, not asking if it would perform in snow / dirt at all or if there was a video on it. furthermore, posts stating that a thread is a "dupe" (90% of them unhelpfully don't even link to said threads that have apparently been duplicated, or better yet are in the fr-s forum) or "SEARCH!!!1" are completely unhelpful and contribute nothing to the forums. thanks in advance

If there is already a thread on topics that briefly discuss this, why start another one? I searched for what the op was trying to discuss and found multiple threads he could have continued on.I posted a link where he could possibly find what he's looking for, not trying to bash on him.

Yeah, sorry Deuce, I didn't really mean to "dupe", just wanted to start a discussion with anybody else thinking about rallycrossing (thanks for the vid though, thats insane!)
Yeah, there's no way I would rallycross this car right off the lot. Maybe in a year or 2. I have tried to peek around the underside when the local Subaru dealer had a preproduction car around, and it looked like it was pretty promising. The engine already had a protective plate on it and the exhaust was nicely tucked into the body. I'd be worried about the trans and suspension bits getting a beating though. I'd probably still try to put some protection down there, some HDPE sheets worked well for me in the past (although I didn't really see very many possible mounting holes while I was down there) |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Well said. Some people just join and quickly want to post a new thread without realizing how quickly we go through topics on here. Most of the time the information is broken on this forum before elsewhere. So to come into the discussion 2-3 weeks after the fact is too late. |

I am an active RallyXer. OVR SCCA region. I compete in M4 with my WRX, but I might bring the BRZ out once for fun.
![]() I've seen Miatas compete, so I think a BRZ will be fine if the surface you're on doesn't rut up in the straights. The low CG should make for controllable slides, and the N/A engine will mean a wide versatile powerband. I think it could do well in the stock class. |

I did very well in a variety of miatas at rallyx. You get strange looks the first few times, but they quickly fade to smiles. I was also considering rallycrossing a FRS/BRZ but would feel terrible about scratches and i'm not sure I want to tape the whole car (which I saw one guy do with his brand new STi.
) I'm not sure how the FRZ compares to ride height with the NA miata but I know it will have more suspension travel, which is will be a huge, huge plus. Underbody paneling will keep 100+ lbs of mud sticking to the car but it will only serve to protect the exhaust from actually damage. Oh, and you'll blow through shocks like you won't believe ![]() But hey, props to the first person who'll take their new toy out there. Sounds like you just volunteered BigFatFlip |

hm not sure why you would rallyx a brand new car. Pick up a beater GTI and you'll have just as much fun and don't have to worry about breaking it. Personally I'm keeping my WRX and turning it into a dedicated rallyx car. In my experience the better driver always wins in rallyx regardless of the car they're driving.
