You would open the rom in Ecuflash, it will tell you it does not have a definition, do you want to create one. You press yes, and then click on from scratch. Then you choose SH72531 under memory module, and Subarubrz flashing method. The unique identifier is at 8000 and 8 bytes long. Fill the rom info in withdrawal"" the year, model etc. - not critical that this is accurate if you're just using it to flash. Click Finish, and when you're back in Ecuflash, click on file, and 'Save Models'.

There should be a definition for pretty much all the roms out there, unless they are seriously old / deprecated.

Thanks gives me some insight into how it works I always like to have a backup plan if something goes south . Hence the reason I have oft as well :-)

much apreciated

You need to differentiate between the binary (the hex file) and the definition file required to edit the rom, and flash it onto the ecu.

I have the B01C rom - if FRS-AZ can confirm it's stock, then I can send you a link. As I said in the other thread, if all you're looking to do is have the ability to flash the latest rom on, then Ecuflash and an OP2 will be the cheapest - will set you back $169.
Td-d, B01C is stock ROM.

The ECU 1.44 (latest) does read the factory RoM. Is there a beta EcuFlash out there I need?

Also I saved this as a bin (since I'm used to that flashing other cars), does that matter?

*.bin is fine. All that *.srf does is allow for roms with non-contiguous calibrations and logic areas to be opened without padding.

I apologize if this has already been provided, but is there an idiot's guide for new ECUFlash users that would want to flash the latest ROM (B01C) to their USDM BRZ/FR-S with a Tactrix cable and their own laptop? Something like:

1) Download and install ECUFlash (download link)
2) Download latest USDM ROM file (download link)
3) Connect laptop to car's OBDII port via purchased Tactrix cable (link for purchasing above)
4) Use ECUFlash software to flash downloaded ROM to your car
5) etc....

I'm sure there's more to it than that, but I'd really like to give this a try and get the latest ROM on my FR-S without having to talk the local Toyota dealership into it.

Posts 367 and 511 and the tratrix website pretty much some it up, the only thing not posted is the ROM/Hex file. I could Posts it with @Td-d 's approval?

Well - Ecuflash link for latest beta is above.
Rom is here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...13ZA1JB01C.hex.
Tactrix OP2 can be purchased here: http://www.tactrix.com/index.php?opt...id=6&Itemid=53
Then open the rom in Ecuflash, connect laptop to OP2 which is connected to OBD2 port, and flash. Done.

I was able to successfully pull my ROM Za1ja00c. This is very exciting! Before I make an attempt at re-flashing my ROM with some minor changes, is it safe to do so at this point? I'm working with a .srf file by the way and didn't quite understand the previous post regarding this. Apologies for the ignorance and thanks in advance.

If your editing with ecuflash you can use srf or bin format. If you want to edit rom with romraider it only reads bin format

you might also consider flashing the b01c rom and use it as a base for you mods as it has updates over one you are using see td-d post above for source of rom and def files.

Are there any videos on this? And basically how is it changing the car's computer to get the extra performance? I'm a tech guy, but new to ECU flashing technology and wanting to get into more performance modding instead of just appearance ONLY
