Tuners Delight: 2013 Scion FRS

I like the Fr-S but i get his point which is; at the price why not go for the new hyundai coupe. The new gen coupecomes with more hp and a stock turbo which can easily be upgraded for cheaper and provide more gain. Compared to a stock fr-s/brz which would require huge amounts of cash. And even the type r one with no turbo can still crush it. He is saying the FR-s suspension is amazing but a hyundai would be better.

(I dont know about the stock internal crap he is spewing but his basic argument cost/power/suspension argument sounds rational.)


Lets look at it this way to make the fr-s have a turbo it will cost somewhere around 6-10k calculating all the turbo and the upgrade internals(if needed) and ecu flashes+tune.

To add a good suspension setup for the hyundai would only be
2k-4k most likely.
That is a huge difference in price to "tune" the cars for what they are "lacking". I put lacking in quotes because no one has seen times, or tested the cars out.

Even then the new gen coupe has a fairly decent suspension already. Its not my styling which is why i prefer the fr-s but its not a far stretch to say that the gen would be the better buy currently.

No one here has driven one of these cars so we should all probably shut our traps on guesstmations though till both cars come out.

I am hoping this car's engine is like the type s engine where we can turbo it with no problem and they can take a beating with out upgrading the internals.

lightweight i wont disagree with. Cheaper that depends on what you want to do with the car. We don't know the price yet so it may not be greatly cheaper. If people want to "upgrade" it might not be cheaper after all.
The reliability part only comes down to brand reliability. Hyundai gets a bad rap but their cars have proven reliable recently, not to mention 10k/100k miles warranty is impressive, so you cant say one will be more reliable then the other especially when none of them are even out.

I understand the driving experiences part but from what I've seen from reviews the gen coupe has also been getting rave reviews on their driving experience. I will wait to try them both. Most likely i prefer the fr-s though. But i am not going to discredit the gen coupe cause I prefer the fr-s and bash the others car.

if that's his point then he needs to make it in the FRS/BRZ vs. section, in which there is already a thread about FRS/BRZ vs Genesis Coupe.

Hyundai does not have the decades of racing heritage that toyota does, so to compare the frs to a hyundai does not make sense,

True but I wouldn't discount them just yet..........they've shown the world they are here to stay, and the proof is in the pudding! You have to agree that Hyundai has made the largest leap in the auto industry and is reaping the benefits.

With that said, will I buy the Genesis over the FR-S/BRZ - NO. But you got to give credit where credit is due sometimes.

I've been watching 2013 GC reviews, and I must say it's getting good reviews. You should critique a Car company on it's progress, not it's past.

go fan boi somewhere else. Wtf is wrong with you. Toyota MADE good cars, they haven't come up with anything until now. You cant talk all high and mighty about toyota who hasn't had anything good since the 90s.

I'm glad that the car can potentially fit 10" wide rims in the back with no modifications, but that still makes it strange that they went with 5X100, as most rims wider than 8" are 5x114.
