Yup, where tire explosions from semi's are not at all uncommon.

Didn't see the truck this happened to, but the remains of his steel-belted radial were ALL OVER the road. This is one I managed to only partially dodge. If I'd just not done anything, I could have been waving bye-bye to a LOT more than just my front bumper's good looks, but to the radiator and condenser as well perhaps.

I've dodged tire pieces plenty of times before. Usually someone else has struck them and then they land right around the painted lane lines, so only a little bit of a swerve is needed to avoid them then, OR, the tire utterly disintegrated and all that's left are little pieces that at most rattle around as they bounce up and strike the fiberglass undertray. Had to MASSIVELY swerve in the STI once to avoid a mattress that was just SITTING in the middle of a lane during heavy commuter traffic. My only warning then was the brake lights on the guy ahead of me and HIS swerve. Gave me enough of a heads up to duck into another lane.

I've also had to dodge entire body panels just sitting in the road before (front and rear bumpers, mainly). Those are usually the result of a recent accident and the piece was simply knocked around by passing traffic too much for the cops to go looking for it when doing road cleanup.

Enough bozos in this state drive around with parts of their car just missing or getting ready to fall off that it wants to make me scream.

I'm now more than a bit envious of those bumper rails that are on all cop vehicles. One of THOSE would have shoved the tire piece right out of my way without the tire piece even mussing my front bumper.

After my deer hit I had to replace my front bumper. With labor it came to $1500 for the front bumper, front grille, 1 fog light, and paint. I still have my receipt but am at work. If you want a more exact total PM me.

Thanks! It should be around $750 for the bumper and hardware for it. Nothing else major was damaged thankfully. Last time they replaced all brackets and the bumper and painted it and it came out to $750 so it should come out to around there I would think since I'm dealing with the same guy.

Ok, got it.

BTW, when you guys talk about replacing and painting the bumper, are you talking about bumper cover? or the moustache?

I'm talking about the bumper cover, but as far as I know the moustache is part of the bumper. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but last time I had the bumper replaced I unserstood from the advisor as it being one piece.

It's one piece. You have to actually cut it out if you don't want it there. I'm also sure the rear diffuser is one piece with the rear bumper as well and requires cutting for removal. Silly Subaru... or CLEVER Subaru?

Unfortunately I do not have that info, as it was graciously given to me by @trevorovert.

Ugh, I am having the biggest debate of getting it done... I don't want anything permanent on my car, and I love to wax. Looks great tho. Give me the secrets to your inspiration?
